Forget all of this horsecrap advice. For a small site, use a great free host with no ads and POP3, too: www.atspace.com
Just signup, add your domain, the go to your registrar and point it to atspace's dns's.
Easy, free, reliable. |

With regards to bryan...he's only 19. Cut him some slack for his naivety and misguided good intentions. My own understanding of business was poor at his age too and I was in a Partnership with a friend. The missing link between "new business" and "customers" eludes many (and some established folk too! lol  ) But I will reiterate that word of mouth is a new/small companies best ally and only truth and integrity multiply this effect positively. Negative publicity travels 10x the speed! 
As for the hosting, I have been using 1and1.com for our site »www.sportcompactmiami.com. 2300+ hits and GB's of bandwidth later we are still going strong. No outages and the speed has held up especially since our primary purpose is displaying images (1000's of them!:) )

They're real great guys. pretty small hosting co so they do all kinds of special setups |

If you have personal experience as a customer of a web host you recommend, so much the better. I used to believe that as well but in the case of CCL hosting you definitely get more that what you pay for. I cautiously tried them and after a year I moved all my domains there. So far so good and they are about $4 a month depending on package if you pay the year in advance.
If all you need is a small non-corporate site they are a good bet. And oddly enough I don't own the company and I don't even have anything to do with them other than just being a customer and DSLR user trying to help other DSLR users in the same way that someone turned me on to them years ago.  |

I'd also recommend SurpassHosting. I had Spymac hosting, but they weren't very good for the price and support was scarce. I had a small issue signing up with SurpassHosting but it's being resolved and the support is excellent and responsive!
I switched to Surpass based on some of the recommendations here, by the way. Great advice!
