Part 5: Troubleshooting firewall problems
1. Determine which Internet applications are being monitored. Open your firewall's security setting area and look through the Internet applications listed. Compare the list of Internet applications to the list of AOL software applications shown above. If the AOL software application is not listed, locate each of these files on your PC using the firewall's application feature, and grant each AOL application access to the Internet.
2. Select a security level. A firewall will offer different levels of security to associate with each known Internet application (for example: Low, Medium, and High). If AOL is having trouble connecting you to the service, set all of the AOL software applications to Low. The Low setting may also be described as Allow Full Access or Permit All.
3. Test your changes. Once these suggestions and permissions have been made, try to connect to the AOL service again. If these attempts fail, the firewall may need to be disabled until further troubleshooting help can be obtained by the firewall vendor. If you are in an institutional environment, contact your network administrator for assistance. -- look out kid they keep it all hid |
