I can’t believe the apparent lack of interest in the future of computing! We need a forum…not just a thread to cover everything that’s coming!!!

I installed x64 RC2 last week. ZA and Outpost are incompatible. Bit Defender Pro has compatible AV, firewall and spam filter. Avast 4.5 works.

Office 2003 works. I currently have Firefox 1.03, DVD Decrypter, CC, Spybot and Counter Spy installed.

Please post what programs are working, links to drivers etc.

Currently my Smartlink modem and MiniPCI wireless g card aren’t working. I connect to my router for internet access.

In order to be eligible to receive Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition, your computer must have been ordered between March 31, 2003 and July 31, 2005 with Microsoft Windows® XP Pro (32 Bit) preinstalled."

What about those of us that paid for retail or OEM versions of XP Pro?

unfortunately its going to be a year before common apps are compiled for x64. its promising, but sadly most stuff doesn't work quite right. I have tried all the RTMs and final. stuff as simple as WinRar context menus don't work properly =(

when apps are ready tho, it will rock! =)

I decided to try something and it worked for those of us who bought the CD.

I right clicked the "My Computer" icon and noticed in my registration info there was a product number under my name and company name. I entered it into the spaces for product I.D. then picked Nov. 4 2004 (when I built this machine) and it let me make the order.

Personally I dont think XP64 Bit will have much of an effect on the home market for some time. the only sector I see even taking advantage of it is the video gaming side of the market. There is not much that I can think of in the business sector that uses THAT much power or needs to be that extensable.

give it time and we will wonder how we did without the 64bit programming just as we do with 32 bit programs. I just dont think it will have too big of an effect for a few years.

Woot! Progress. I,m still using RC2 but just discovered my Linksys WPC54 GS wireless card is is detected as a Broadcom Wireless G and connects to my router.:)I also found some drivers for my on board MiniPCI Wireless G card.

Last night I modded the latest ATI Radeon Catalyst 5.4 drivers with the DH Modtool and and got them installed. If anyone need help, perhaps we need a thread for tips and tricks.:)

For those upset about not qualifying, my first post today was for a trial version of x64. Washington to CA $12 shipping and handling.

It went on sale in Japan last weekend and is already for sale on the net. Don't worry! I'm sure the price will come down.

.Netframework 2.0 beta. necessasry for installing Catalyst 5.4 driver. The installation takes a looooong time. Get some coffee or take a "power nap" LOL.:)

Please note: The above .Netframework and some drivers come in various forms: IA64 and a generic 64 or AMD64. Dave was kind enough to provide an explanation. Be sure to download the correct software for your chip.

The Tiny firewall is no longer beta. Final release is compatible with IA, EMT and AMD chips.

Yes!!!!! BOClean is comaptible with x64. I just installed it. I hadn't even tried since most AVs don't work with x64 due to 32 bit drivers. An e-mail from Kevin McAleavey set me straight.:)

What MS so conviently decided to only hint at is that once you trade in your XP Pro PID (Product ID) its gone for good, you are stuck with XP64 and its PID which wont work with XP 32bit. Thus making it almost impossible to go back to WinXP 32bit.. there are ways to do it, Im just not going post em sincce some of them are lets say less than legal.
