| [ATT CV] slow roadrunner browsing
»[Tweak Test] help...my wife is gonna shoot me!!
above is a link to some postings regarding the above problem. the person helping me suggested i come to this forum, since it may involve my VoIP.
i'm running ATT CV VoIP (Dlink box). the modem provided by TW cable is a motorola. i'm also using a Dlink wireless modem.
i have very slow browsing speed. it worked fine initially after it was installed (2 mos ago), and it has gotten progressively worse.
cable has pretty much rewired my house, put in an amplifier, changed out all the splitters, etc. the signal to their modem is fine.
AT&T brought me to this site, and we ran a speed test, which showed upload much faster than download. they couldn't contact TW cable because they were already closed.
if anyone out there has any ideas, i'd be most appreciative,as my wife is about ready to punt the whole program out the window, and make me put the dial-up back in.
thanks in advance. |

| reply to SuperNet33 awesome. ok, here's how it's rigged:
cable from wall to modem;
ethernet cable from modem to VoIP box;
another ethernet cable from VoIP box to wireless router.
both the VoIP and router are DLink.
let me know what you think.
thanks a whole bunch. |

| reply to SuperNet33 after using computer for a while, speed started to diminish again. got frustrated, and went to work.
came home this evening and rerouted the voip behind the router. that's how i'm running now. seems to be running ok (and surprisingly, the phone still works). i'll keep working with it to see if i have degredation as time goes by...this is how it has performed recently...fast for a while, and then slowing to an unbearable crawl.
thanks for your help...tried to IM you a few minutes ago and you were not online.
i'll try to keep you posted on how this works. |

| reply to bozopiep when you talked to ATT tech services did they mention anything about putting you on a different bucket for different bandwidth? There are several different quality of service settings they can set up your account to work in. One may work better than the other and settings can change... -- TALKABOUTVOIP.COM VOIP Professional Help |

| no they did not. i will call att back tomorrow using your terminology to see what they can do.
it is now almost midnight where i live, and the speed on the system is much better than a couple hours ago. maybe it is a cable problem after all.
i normally wake up in the middle of the night most nights (my dogs wake me up). tonight when it happens, i'll check the computer to see how it's running. if it' speedy, and i can begin to isolate particular times of day, then maybe it is a traffic problem like a couple others have suggested. honestly, i have not noticed that the problem was only at certain times, but i will begin to watch that more closely.
i did redo the wiring and put the voip box behind the router...didn't seem to have much impact.
thanks for your post...i'll act on it when att opens in the am. |
