if you give up your number you can't get it back. Best to keep it at bare minimum (usually around $8 a month plus a few dollars tax) until they can port it.
OR, go with another VOIP provider. I originally was going to get Verizon Voice Wing, then found out (this is funny) that they couldn't port THEIR OWN number (my current number was a Verizon number, but Voice Wing couldn't port it).
So I dumped them and went with Packet8, who COULD port the Verizon number. Crazy stuff. |

Ok I just checked out vonage's website. Their VOIP service is only 25$ a month!!! Does anyone else have this? Are there any known problems with vonage? Are there hidden fees? I already know that they have number portability... and they have all of the features that optimum voice has. So right now I'm thinking Vonage= 25$ a month + Optimum Online 45$ a month- that would be 70$ a month. Currently I have verizon DSL and Verizon's Phone plan- 30$ + 55$= 85$. So there is a decent difference, not to mention that optimum online is A LOT better than verizon dsl. The ONLY downside to getting this and not the double play is that the double play would be cheaper for the first year 30$ + 30$ = 60$. But... from what I hear, Optimum Online's speed and reliability is going down the crapper. If I were to just get optimum online, then there wouldn't be a contract and I could ditch it whenever I wanted to to get Verizon FIOS when its available. |

| Since you are in New Jersey you might also want to check out the other NJ company, VoicePulse - their users seem pretty happy with the service overall (not that there are never minor glitches, but all VoIP companies have them) and I think you will find that you get a lot more features for your money. Not trying to steer you one way or the other, just suggesting you compare both before making a decision. |

| Thanks for the suggestion... I'm very happy with the future possibilities of what I can get for internet/phone but I'm kinda upset with the broadband options I have now. Like I said, OOL is getting worse and worse, and FIOS isn't available yet. Its available in Rockaway Boro which is like 1 mile from where I live now. So I guess I'll have to settle with OOL until FIOS becomes available. |
