Your System - May 2005

Post your system specs if you've built/bought a new system during the month of May.

If you've changed your system, put "ADDED" next to the new component(s).

If you haven't changed anything - don't post!

I just got this finished about 2 weeks ago!!! After using my 500 Mhz Athlon(original series) for so many years, this thing absolutely flies!

Motherboard: Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
Processor: Athlon XP 3000+ Mhz
Memory: Samsung 512MB Dual Channel DDR
Video Card: (Chaintech) G-Force 4 MX-440 8X AGP
Audio: Integrated 5.1 surround sound
Hard Drive: (2) Maxtor 80 GB SATA drives running in a Raid 0 configuration(Stripped set). The computer sees them as one drive. It will split the data and write to both drives at the same time. Reading from the drives works the same way, only the data transfer rate is doubled.
Pioneer DVD-RW Drive Model DVR-109
Standard 3 1/2 " Floppy drive
Acer ScanPrisa 640U Scanner
Lexmark Z-51 Printer
Sound Image Speakers

It works for me!!

This is an upgrade of my youngest son's system:

MSI K8N Neo 4 SLI Platinum
ADA3200DAA4BP LBBLE 0516 (Venice) @ 2500 MHz (HTT 4, LDT 250 X 10) Stock vcore (38c idle, 47c load)
1 GB OCZ PC3700 EB CAS 3 (vdimm 2.85) running 1:1 @ 250 MHz
Thermaltake Silent Boost K8
Gigabyte X800XL 256 (doesn't want to overclock)
2 X Western Digital 36 GB Raptors in RAID 0
1 WD 8 MB cache 150 GB storage drive
DVD ROM
MSI CD R/W
Thermaltake Xaser III case with lots of fans and lights
Enermax Whisper II 460 Watt PSU

It hit 250MHz easy, with no problems. I'm gonna let it sit there for a while, then see how much farther I can go on stock vcore. I've heard of Venice's with this stepping reaching 2.7 GHz on air!

The only bummer I've seen with this board so far is that you have to disable aggressive timing over 235 MHz. Hopefully a BIOS update will fix that.

I figure to make use of the SLI feature sometime down the road - but not now.

•WD 74GB Raptor HD (SATA)

New build for May:

processor: AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (Venice)
motherboard: MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
memory: OCZ Gold Dual Channel 2 Gig (two sets 2x512)
video card: MSI 6600GT PCI-e
HDD: Seagate Barracuda NCQ (three 80GB, two in RAID 1)
case: Antec P160
power supply: Seasonic S12-430W
heat sink: Thermalright XP-90
misc: the usual in optical, floppy, etc.

I went with 2 Gig of ram because I do a lot of photo processing. One HHD will be for the operating system and miscellaneous software, while the RAID will be for photo storage etc. 80 gig is more than I will need.

An extremely quiet and cool system.

Brad
