| SunRocket POTS Disconnect Question
Hello,
I've had Sunrocket for a few months now, and overall, have been very satisfied. I'd like to, however, get my original jacks working so I can use more then the two cordless/wireless phones that came with Sunrocket. I thought it'd be easy (and it probably is for most people), but Ive had no success so far. First, I went out and unplugged all the rj-11 plugs on my outside box to disconnect my POTS line-- I receive no dial tone on any of my jacks. Next, I plugged a rj-11 chord from the life line socket of the gizmo into a free jack. I went downstairs to try to plug a phone into another jack, and nothing. What did I do wrong? Can anyone help me out, please? Thanks! Jason |

| With the caveat that I haven't done this myself.....
Don't plug the rj-11 cord into the life-line, you'll need to plug it into the "Phone 1" socket and plug whatever's currently plugged in there into another one of your existing wall jacks.
It should be safe to plug the Phone-1 connection into an existing jack as long as your existing wiring is no longer connected to POTS and thus carrying no power.
My understanding is that the Life-line is for a back-up (live) POTS line that the gizmo will use in the event its connection to sunrocket has failed. |

I did the same steps when I rewired my house for Sunrocket voip.
Simply use line 1, NOT life line and you're done.
Make sure none of the phones have dialtone, and your set.
Good Luck. |

| There can still be a voltage across the line from the CO even if there's no dialtone. You should disconnect the house wiring from the POTS line to make sure, and tag the wiring to say it's been disconnected.
Connecting wiring to an ATA that's also receiving a voltage from the CO could lead to equipment damage.

and Yes, that Michigan telephone guide is pretty good. That is the one I used when I did my house. Very helpful and even provides a bit more info than necessary but its good for the learning process. |
