id like to ask everyone when you get alot of sudden spam, is there anything that can be done about it ??
in a yr of being set up like this , in all that time i had NEVER, EVER recieved spam, and i do mean EVA, now i find 17 stopped emails all in the same day
at least the spam option is working fine with westnet but can i as an individual, send them anywhere, or do i sit back proud of my ISP, and hope they go away |

| You're doing pretty well if you've NEVER received any spam.
Did you look at the messages you did get? 17 emails all of a sudden out of nowhere could be a virus/worm outbreak, which there has been one in the past few days (Sober.O). -- SMTP: Spam and Malware Transfer Protocol. Also used on rare occasion to transmit e-mail messages. |

| reply to norwegian that is true, i never had, but they are still on the ISP'S but some are from admin(at)hotmail, so i might just give them a call and let them know about it
looks like everyone coping them eh, i hope no one opens them and sends another email on to me after, the ol AV might have to wake up |

1 edit | Emails coming "from" admin at hotmail/yahoo/whatever, sounds like the Sober wormie going around. The "from" address is spoofed, so they aren't really coming from "admin at hotmail".
More info can be found in this thread: »W32.Sober.O@mm/Sober.P -- SMTP: Spam and Malware Transfer Protocol. Also used on rare occasion to transmit e-mail messages. |

| My Columbus Roadrunner domain has been catching them - I've been getting about 3-4 a day - All are nabbed by RR, cleaned and a virus notice for Sober.xx inserted. However I've backtracked Some of the Sober stuff to other RR residential domains,(San Francisco and Western Ohio among others) so not all of RR was protected at once.
I have one address that gets lots of spam and virus stuff, three others that get none as a result of the limited communications for which they are used. However, none of the crap gets beyond the MX to my PC(s). Yahoo has also been very effective so far. It's set to autodelete crapmail. |

| reply to norwegian I have been getting email, lots of it, in the past week, with my name spoofed in the address. I even posted to the Spam Forum »Is there a way to stop these? which you might be interested in reading. In my case at least, there's nothing that can be done about it.:( |
