| Re: [CritEditY] Birds When you see a red finch, you are looking at a male of one of three species: Purple Finch, Cassin's Finch, House Finch (non-native bird). I'd say that this bird is a Purple Finch. Let me know if you want to learn more about telling the various finch species apart. Nice photographs! Fill flash would have again helped on the finch shots. -- "Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. Are these crops or resized originals? | |

Are these crops or resized originals? Ya, I dont know much about flashes. I was actually pretty close when I took these shots. Probably about 10-12 feet away. Most of these shots are just resized. A couple of the finch shots are cropped. -- "We didn't lose the game; we just ran out of time." Vince Lombardi | |

| Pretty birds - we don't have too many like that - ours are either black or brown Flash is useful sometimes when the light is strong and coming from behind what you are shooting - you might not need a lot of assist from it, just enough to bring out detail, so try popping up the flash anyway - nothing to lose. | |

| Great shots! Number two is an excellent capture of an Evening Grosbeak. Although the others are Purple Finches they sure look different from the ones out here. Also for future reference, female Purple finches have been known to sing quite melodically. | |

| Re: [CritEditY] Birds said by tiggerstales :Beautiful! I used to see purple finches here regularly, but haven't seen one now for a long time. The Grosbeaks are sp pretty and colorful. We don't see those way down here. What lens were you using? Thanks TT. The lens is a Sigma APO MACRO SUPER II 70-300mm F4-5.6 -- "We didn't lose the game; we just ran out of time."
