When you see a red finch, you are looking at a male of one of three species: Purple Finch, Cassin's Finch, House Finch (non-native bird). I'd say that this bird is a Purple Finch. Let me know if you want to learn more about telling the various finch species apart. Nice photographs! Fill flash would have again helped on the finch shots.

1 edit | Would fill flash have helped much? This is a 300mm lens so chances are he is a fair distance away. Would need to be a pretty powerful flash.

Ya, I dont know much about flashes. I was actually pretty close when I took these shots. Probably about 10-12 feet away. Most of these shots are just resized. A couple of the finch shots are cropped.
