| Best Spam Filter for Exchange 2000
For our server at work with 25 clients right now. We're looking for a good 3rd party spam filter to install on our Exchange server.
Any advice?

1 edit | No it's not server-side, but the SpamBayes Outlook Plug-In works very well with Exchange server connectivity. Particularly in a smaller shop you don't need anything else. And as noted, it's both free and better than just about anything else.
The unique killer feature in that program is the "unsure" folder, so you really NEVER have to check the "spam" folder after a couple of weeks of training.

P.S. Since Bayesian filters really only work well when they're personalized by individual training anyhow, and server-side Bayesian filters still need individual user input to be effective, it may really make sense to forgo server-side. You're only giving up blacklisting and centralized administration.

Any real-life experiance with GFI, it looks pretty good?
I wish Avast Server Edition had a spam plugin, we're running it on the Exchange server and it works awesome.

I have many GFI products. all work very well but it is best to make the purchase if that is the way you wish to go.
Why not off-load that scan and go with the following. This has by far been the best thing I have seen in along time.

I run GFI on my mail server. I would estimate that with version 11 I get 99% spam elimination. But I do have the full version (not freeware), that includes the bayesian filter.

We use GFI Mail Essentials which catches 99%-100% of spam, it filters between 40K-50K emails a day.
We also use GFI Mail Security, great products, very pleased.

OK with GFI...
I presently have something like 35 mailboxes. Will the 25 user license still cover all 35. In other words is the 25, a max connection at a time license, or is it truely, per mailbox?

We used GFI and I think you will be pleased with it.
never had any major issues, it worked smoothly - though the one issue I had during installation - their support people kind of had me going in circles for a while. We finally got on the same page and it was resolved. After that - no issues.
We moved up to an IronPort »www.ironport.com/ as the company grew. No reason to compare the two. Completely different levels of protection.

That kinda sucks, I'ld like a per server license application or at least not be strictly confined to the 25 mailbox limit. I mean I don't mind paying for 25 licenses I just wish that if I went a little over 25 it would queue the messages waiting for an open slot.

| If you go over 25, I think the only thing that happens is it shuts down the features NOT present in the free version and bugs you about getting more licenses, but don't quote me on that. I think a lot of Exchange based products now are getting to where they will ask the Active Directory because it makes skirting around licensing impossible.
