The phone industry is guilty as anyone..

This is nothing but a PR move from the Phone Companies. When was the last time anyone's see a phone company pay its own taxes instead of passing them off to the consumer?

Umm... when, in the history of commerce for profit, has any seller not ulitmately passed along the cost of doing business to their customers?

Agreed, but lets look at it this way. When, in the history of commerce for profit, has any seller not ultimately passed along the cost of doing business to their customers, until after the customer was contractually obligated for service based on a bait and switch pricing scenario.
