[X] I hate Stuffit Expander

Hey guys,

I installed lots of cool apps, and I realized that I needed to open .sit and .sitx files so I downloaded Stuffit Expander 9.0.

Now, whenever I double click a .sit file for example, the dialog window comes up showing that it's extracting the files, and the folder is actually made. But...there is nothing in the folder! For all .sit files!

I uninstalled (dragged folder to the trash) and then re-installed with no luck. I also trashed everything that I could fine with Spotlight, and then re-installed. No dice.

Any other ideas? Any alternatives to Stuffit that I can use? (.dmg's rule)

I've had a similar problem since I upgraded to Tiger. Have you tried running them through a second time? For some reason, it works for me the second time around. Kind of annoying, but something I'm just hoping they will fix eventually.

Nope. Still doesn't work the 2nd time around...

Are there any other programs that can expand .sit files? Man this sucks!

My PowerBook has been AWESOME...I love it. This is my only problem.

I haven't had any problems expanding .sit files with Stuff-it. I downloaded the Call of Duty demo and it seemed like it was getting hung up at the very end, but it did work.

Have you downloaded the current version?

Definitely make sure you're using 9.0.2. Here's a link to the current installer (this doesn't install the Stuffit Standard demo, just the Expander): »www.allume.com/downloads/files/s···r902.dmg

Wow, this is the weirdest thing. Each time I "extract" by either double clicking or dragging it into the Expander App, I get different amounts of items in the folders each time. Look:

So frustrating.

(these are just icons for example, but it's the same for all .sits)

What file are you trying to extract?

Can I download it and try it?

Are you sure it isn't this one .sit file that is possibly corrupt? Have you tried opening any others?

I've tried many, many .sit files and they are all the same. You can try the file here kfsutops See Profile:

(not the same exact file, but it should have things in it)

1226_alu.zip 1069918 bytes
(1226_alu.sit)

This kind of stuff is precisely why I wish people would stop using the .sit format, and stick with OSX's own archive .zip format.

Or .dmg's for that matter...you can't go wrong.

@sympatico.ca

Try unstuffing in a different location on your hd. Had the same problems. Powerbook. Tiger. I could not unstuff from the download location which was the desktop. I noticed that stuffit expander worked elsewhere. Changed the location of download in the browser prefs. Worked. Hope this helps.

I'm sorry, but that has to be one of the funniest things I've ever seen in computing!D:D:D:p:D:):p:D:D

That beats many a Winblows error message, any day of the week.

Again, sorry, and best of luck to you.
