Re: Can anyone still use eMule with Keyon wireles

To LV man: Ok, thanks for the heads up, looks like I need to go back to Cox. Good thing my contract is up. But man, I wasted $200 for the installation. Looks like unless eMule adapt a system similar to BT where the data are harder to block, it's a goner.

To superdog1: to my knowledge, no ISP has been sued in by the RIAA in the P2P file sharing cases. I think this has to do with limiting bandwidth cost more than anything.

I will agree with You that part of it is the bandwidth it eats up. While no ISP's have been sued Yet, There have been rumblings that we could be sued for not blocking traffic we know to be illegal in nature. Who knows WHAT the RIAA will do next?.

Hopefully the other 2 ISP in my area won't start doing that.

P2P will always be blocked, or, at the very least, severely throttled.

The problem is that applications like that take as much bandwidth as they can get. That kills the system for all the other users.

Well, I found a way to get around it for now. So I'll keep using Keyon for a while. It's true that P2P will always be blocked, but newer P2P technology will always overcome it.

Legal issues aside...the main issue with P2P is that it hogs bandwidth. This is a problem for the WISP.

The newer technologies are very much more capable than simple "port blockers". These technologies are adaptive...and change as they need to to control the traffic.

I do understand why You wany to use PtP and I have no problem with that. You are the one that is responsible for the content that is being shared. If You are doing something illegal?, I guess You can go to confession on Sunday and clear Your conscience?:D . The battle with ISP's(Not just WISP's) and end users over PtP applications will never end. Port blockers are worthless these days, as some of the adaptive PtP applications will just move over to port 80, and then stuff really goes crazy. That doesn't happen on our network, as we use packet technology that "sees" (for lack of better terms) what type of data is using the network and it sees that the same IP's and ports are getting hit with the same data and strings. I am not our linux guru, I am just repeating what my Sys. Admin. has told me?. I guess we will see what happens in the long run?
