| Satellite dish on public utility pole? (part 2)
(For background, refer to the previous thread) »OT: Satellite dish attached to utility pole?
Long story short, a neighbor _HAD_ a satellite dish attached to a telephone pole. Com Ed says that they removed it this morning. I'll see if I can get a snapshot tonight. I already have a much clearer snapshot from this morning. It was a Dish network satellite dish.
So, I called SBC DSL ASI. I was told the trouble ticket was closed because the telco switched the pair I was on and that's all they have to do to close their work order! This is after I was told multiple times over the weekend that the bridge tap on the line was preventing them from completing service for my DSL problem. He said that because the telephone pair was changed SBC DSL will not send the telco out to remove the bridge tap because the telco says the swapped pair fixes the problem... disregarding the fact that there may or may not be a bridge tap on the new line.
I was also told the trouble ticket is closed and cannot be reopened. The resolution was that I was switched to a new pair. *grr* And what about the fact that the telco said the line service wasn't finished because of that rogue satellite dish blocking the bridge tap removal!?!?!
The current resolution is that SBC ASI bumped my profile from 1.9mbit to 2.5mbit. (In March, the line looked like it could handle 3.6/768... I had 2 weeks in March and all of April at 2.4Mb effective download speeds before my line flaked out on May 1st.) I'm supposed to keep an eye on the line. If I start losing dial tone or dsl sync or getting bad performance, I'm supposed to call and open a new trouble ticket so that they can determine _IF_ (HAH!) a bridge tap exists on the line. (When I was told that a bridge tap exists and is the reason why the telco didn't finish the service on my DSL line in the first place!)
*sigh* It feels like I'm starting my troubleshooting all over again. |

I think this is apt....
Procedure for Frustration... 1. Draw a dot on the desk. 2. At peak frustration level, smash head on dot.
Repeat as neccessary...:D |

Have you taken this up with the SBC Direct folks here? I'd be curious to see if they could get another ticket opened. |

I'm going to monitor the quality of the line at the 2.5mbps/512kbps profile for the next few days. If there's any kind of a problem, you bet I'm gonna be back over in SBC Direct posting my logs and referring the previous incomplete attempt to correct the line problem. |
