[W2K] Windows Update: Windows 3.1 Installer

My computer today downloaded the Windows 3.1 Installer update for Win2K.
Has anybody else received the update? I know for a fact the 3.1 installer has been out for some time now for XP, but don't know if it's been out for Win2K until today?

Thanks,

I installed it on a W2k box over a month ago.

I seem to recall a re-release of the component because of some problems with the original -- it is mentioned in this thread: »[Info] Download\Marketplace Sampler - week of 5/14

Thanks!
This is the information I was looking for. Looks as if it is indeed a new update: 3.1.4000.2435 v2.

Interesting...(and strange).

I was just notified tonight of this very 3.1 Installer v2 update for XP Pro.
(This particular machine I have set up to download automatically, but notify me before installing).

Computer has been on for three days...update just came down the pike today.

So there you go (FWIW).

  Interesting indeed!
I also grabbed the update manually for my XP Pro machine as it was not appearing on v5 of the Windows Update at the time I scanned for updates. It was only appearing on the v4 Windows Update site.

Didn't see the update when I checked Windows Update with XP Home last night, but I did see it earlier yesterday updating a Windows 2000 box at work.

More Microsoft KB information for 2K3 and 64-bits (IA-64/x64):

(I started an earlier thread when this was pulled: )

I installed the old Windows Installer 3.1 from Windows Updates last month. I just downloaded the new version from the link that Mseng supplied.

Windows Installer 3.1 is listed in add/remove. Should I remove it before installing the version 2, or can I just install the latest one over the old?

Thank you.

Sincerely, Libra

Good question!

I never thought to look in the Add/Remove menu for the Windows 3.1 v1 Installer. However, after installing the updated v2, there was still only one entry called: Windows Installer 3.1. I clicked on it, clicked support, and it says version 2.

So I believe you do not need to remove the previous version as Microsoft takes care of removing all the old entries, and updates the system correctly.

Hope this helps?

Thank you very much Dustyn. I just installed it and looked at the properties of the file and I now have the correct version. It seems like the old version would have caused many headaches as far as updating is concerned.

Sincerely, Libra

You can download it through Windows Update or direct from here: »www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta···yLang=en

It's version two of the Windows 3.1 Installer.

that windows 3.1 installer package has been modified twice in as many months, i think they updated and the second was a tidy up(tune) , on xp-home at least

just a info point

Your don't "run" anything. The Installer is an application installation and configuration service. It runs when you install applications, updates, etc., on the PC.
