| [W2K] Windows Update: Windows 3.1 Installer
My computer today downloaded the Windows 3.1 Installer update for Win2K. Has anybody else received the update? I know for a fact the 3.1 installer has been out for some time now for XP, but don't know if it's been out for Win2K until today?

| I installed it on a W2k box over a month ago.
I seem to recall a re-release of the component because of some problems with the original -- it is mentioned in this thread: »[Info] Download\Marketplace Sampler - week of 5/14 -- Life is like an Adventure... BUT COOL GRAPHICS |

| Interesting...(and strange).
I was just notified tonight of this very 3.1 Installer v2 update for XP Pro. (This particular machine I have set up to download automatically, but notify me before installing).
Computer has been on for three days...update just came down the pike today.
So there you go (FWIW). -- I had a life once.....now I have a Computer and a Modem. |

| Interesting indeed! I also grabbed the update manually for my XP Pro machine as it was not appearing on v5 of the Windows Update at the time I scanned for updates. It was only appearing on the v4 Windows Update site. -- "You have no idea what I am capable of. People who have tried to cross me, have lived to regret it...~Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) |

| reply to Dustyn Didn't see the update when I checked Windows Update with XP Home last night, but I did see it earlier yesterday updating a Windows 2000 box at work.

| reply to Dustyn I installed the old Windows Installer 3.1 from Windows Updates last month. I just downloaded the new version from the link that Mseng supplied.
Windows Installer 3.1 is listed in add/remove. Should I remove it before installing the version 2, or can I just install the latest one over the old?
Thank you.
Sincerely, Libra |

I never thought to look in the Add/Remove menu for the Windows 3.1 v1 Installer. However, after installing the updated v2, there was still only one entry called: Windows Installer 3.1. I clicked on it, clicked support, and it says version 2.
So I believe you do not need to remove the previous version as Microsoft takes care of removing all the old entries, and updates the system correctly.
Hope this helps? -- "You have no idea what I am capable of. People who have tried to cross me, have lived to regret it...~Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) |
