Issue that is addressed in Windows Installer 3.1 (v2)
• Windows Installer no longer fails silently when the installer tries to update a file that is protected by the Windows File Protection feature. |

Updated my Win2k machine last evening. My WinXP Laptop, never notified me it had an update. Sounds like it will be telling me to update today when I get home.

Yup. I found it sitting there, this morning, waiting to be downloaded.
Installed and rebooted with no apparent ill effect.

1 edit | Haven't received update alert yet, but of course I don't leave my PC on overnight, so I guess it will pick it up sometime today. I think my autoupdates are set from anywhere 2P.M. to 5P.M.
Since I still think it's unsafe to leave a PC on 24/7 so I never do it, always shutdown before I go to sleep at night. |

I don't use automatic updates, but I got the Windows 3.1 Installer as part of the April '05 Windows Updates.
