Can it simply be cordless phone usage in my area??? I tried my own 2.4ghz cordless within a few fee of the router and no apparent reactions... What about that new 2.55 firmware?
It could be cordless phones, baby-monitors, other non-wifi users. It could be a conflict between the various proprietary enhancements to wi-fi in use in your neighborhood.

As to the phones specifically, it seems to happen to certain brands/models of phones more than it does with others. I suspect that is because of the different techniques used to broadcast the signal -- digital vs analog, spread spectrum techniques, and etcetera.

Firmware definitely could help: A few weeks ago, on a hunch, I suggested that someone try turning on Extended Range mode (his was definitely an interference problem) and suddenly his problems were over. Extended Range was not available until 2.5x versions of the firmware.

Many companies have several access points and several subnets. Roaming between these subnets is impossible with static IP addresses.
It occurred to me right after I sent my message that you probably were thinking of roaming.

All very good points! Thanks for the light!

Re: 2.53 on DLINK CANADA?

I don't know if it's been reported but 2.53 is available at DLink USA and DLink Taiwan now.

I've tried this firmware and my router keeps rebooting no matter what channel is on. I'm using the same settings as 2.42 with the exception of WPA2 but with this firmware the router reboots every couple of days. I'm at 2.52 right now and so far so good.
