[DSL] "A Network Cable is Unplugged" Error Message

Hello,

I've been using AOL Brodband successfully for a few months. Then I went on vacation and my husband (yes, it's always the hubby!) did SOMETHING to the PC which is causing it to get a pop-up in the lower right-hand corner of the screen that says, "A network cable is unplugged" over and over and over.

I saw a number of other posts regarding this error message, but they all pertained to computers which are networked. Mine is not on a network, it's a stand-alone machine.

Yesterday it would freeze completely each time the message popped up, so I uninstalled and re-installed the broadband drivers. It didn't solve the problem completely, but I no longer freeze, I just slow down until it reconnects (about 60 seconds each time). I went into the Properties and unclicked the "notify me when the connection is lost" box, but it's STILL popping up.

How on earth can I get it to go away? I've spoken with half dozen AOL Tech support people who cannot solve the problem.

The Facts:
Windows XP
AOL Gold
BT Voyager 105 USB ADSL modem

(Please type in small words, as you can probably tell, I am a bit "technically challenged" when it comes to computers)

Thanks!
Linda
