DWL-G800AP and DWL-G810 interchangeable?

Are the DWL-G800AP and DWL-G810 firmwares interchangeable like the 800AP and the 810+ firmwares?

Anyone has tried to hack the G810 firmware to flash a G800AP, like it was done with the 800AP and the 810+?

I flashed like 20 800AP into 810+, and got one G800AP that would like to turn it into a G810 but iam not sure if it is possible.

Anyone knows for sure if they are the same hardware?

Anyone did this?

More info:

The DWL-800AP I have has an FCC ID: KA2DWLG810A1

Part Number BDWLG800..A1

Well, that FCC ID belongs to the G810, so we are in the right track...

Now, the PCB has: GL2454AP-QA1-B10 VER:V1.0, in the FCC photos for the G810, the PCB has: GL2454AP-LAO VER:T1.0

Maybe someone can check what an actual A1 G810 has, maybe the FCC photo PCB is an early version?

The strange thing is the firmwares, the G800 has at the end: AP3X-CUS28, the G810 has GL2454AP-LAO

I wonder if its just a matter of changing the last bytes, calculate the new checksum and flash it....

cheksum calculator for Dlink firmwares - needs VB6 runtimes
(checksum.exe)
OK 6 sleepless hours later, I can report:

I modified the G810 firmware so it would load in a G800 without the checksum error. I flashed my G800 with modified G810 firmware, seems like i´ve got a G810 now muahahaha!

I modified the G800 firmware, flashed again, got G800 back. The model number in the firmware reads GL2454AP-LA0, took me a couple of hours to realize that thats a zero at the end, not the letter "O" Damn!!! Should have checked the hex value!

In the process, i created a VB program to calculate checksums for Dlink firmwares, guess it will work on most of them, checked also with DI-604, DWL-810+, DWL-800AP, seems to work.

Have NOT yet tested if it works as a G810, at least web admin works, will test tomorrow.

ok. its sounds like good news.
i'm trying to change that firmware too, please explain me how to modify G810 firmware file. I know that I need to modify it in order to pass web admin utility controls.
TIA.

Simple tutorial to flash G800 to G810 and back.
I used XVI32 free hex editor at »www.chmaas.handshake.de/

Check the images, they are self-explanatory. DANGER! its GL2454AP-LA0 (last character is the number 0, not letter O)

Convert G800 to G810:

1. open the G810 firmware with the hex editor
2. Save as G800_2_G810.BIN or any name you like
3. Change last bytes of firmware as shown in picture DWL-G800_to_G810_215.bin
4. Save again
5. Flash G800 to G810

Figure out how to do G810 to G800

If you ruin your device, dont blame me!

I've try to do it backwards, and it didn't work, did anyone really could?, i still get the checksum error.

Anyway thanks a lot calloati for your help but it seems that it doesn't work backwards.

Sorry, I finally made it, I change a dwl-g810 into a dwl-g800ap.

Thanks a lot.

I'm posting the image file for the bios change.

Javier,
Thank you for your work. I turned my dwl-800ap+ into a dwl-810, today and found this thread, while searching for a way to convert my new dwl-810 to a dwl-G810.
I am unable to get the same checksum after conversion... where am I going wrong?

Using your checksum prog here is the info:
Checksum for Dlinks original g810.bin: 3C 37 BC F1
Checksum for Dlinks original 810+.bin: 44 34 3D 73
Checksum for hacked g810.bin (last 2 hex lines like 810+): 36 29 BA 92
Here are images of the 2 files, the highlights show what will/got changed.

Thanks for any help you can offer

Hello,

I have a DWL-G800AP (No +) Hardware Rev. A1

My firmware has been updated to 1.05 and the thing never has worked properly Lost packets, slow speeds it is completly useless

I would love to change it to a bridge, but when I edit the file as shown above and get the checksum error :/

I noticed that you are editing the 2.0 firmware for the 810 and wonder if I can even use my 800AP in this edit.

Is it even possible to change the normal 800ap to the 810+ ?

Guys:

Stop mixing up products, it is like this:

The following two products are the same hardware-wise:
(1a) DWL-810+
(1b) DWL-800AP+

The following two products are the same hardware-wise:
(2a) DWL-G800AP
(2b) DWL-G810

(1a) and (1b) are alike, (2a) and (2b) are alike, but (1a) and (1b) are NOT like (2a) and (2b) ok? You cannot mix firmwares between (1) and (2)

When you mention models, please state the FULL correct model number, DWL-810+, DWL-800AP+, DWL-G810, DWL-G800

I Started the thread talking about the G800AP and the G810, others started mixing names and creating confusion, just read carefully what i wrote.

You cannot convert a "dwl-810" (I guess you mean a DWL-810+) into a DWL-G810, they are different hardware.

DWL-810+ TO DWL-800AP+ OK
DWL-800AP+ TO DWL-810+ OK
DWL-G800AP TO DWL-G810 OK
DWL-G810 TO DWL-G800AP OK

Any other combination: WRONG!! ie:

DWL-810+ TO DWL-G810 NO!!

Thanks for the answer. I had heard that the Dlink dwl-800AP+/810+(802.11b) and the dwl-G800AP/G810(802.11g), series of AP/Repeaters and Bridges were the same hardware, just different firmware. The Firmware's file sizes are identical and only the last few hex address's are different on all 4 models.
I appreciate your work on converting the G version of the 8XX series though, thanks.
