wadonoelPremium join:2004-11-16 New York, NY | F5D6130 v.2 works great with SMC2671W firmware A while ago, I made the mistake of getting this access point, thinking it was v.1 and it would do AppleTalk and other stuff, only to find out it won't and would not connect out of the box to Apple's original Airport cards, Orinoco Classic and others with the same chipset.
Yesterday, I finally decided to flash it with the firmware for SMC2671W, which uses the same chipset, thinking "Oh well, if it breaks I'll have a good excuse to buy a Linksys WRT54G or something". The flash went well and I decided to load the default wireless setting by looking at the pdf manual on SMC's site. (You could do a factory reset and reconfigure everything to be on the safe side)
Pros: Works with original Airport Card!(haven't tried Orinocos yet) Signal is stronger.(you can adjust its strength too) WPA Repeater mode and Client mode(haven't tried them yet)
Cons: The Wireless LED does not work anymore(don't care much) Still no AppleTalk over wireless(bummer, I have a LaserWriter Pro 630)
Overall, I'm happier...

Anyway that person says that client mode(bridge) works, which is a good thing. |
