Severna Park neighbors feel invaded by Verizon (MD

The article seems to be mostly about gripes from 2 residents but this is the part that caught my eye:

..."The work will likely continue statewide into 2006, Ms. Arnette said. So far, crews have started in Crofton, Parole and Severna Park. Work is upcoming in Annapolis, Arden on the Severn, Arnold, Crownsville, Gambrills, Herald Harbor, Laurel, Millersville, Old Mill and Shipley's Choice."

Re: Severna Park neighbors feel invaded by Verizon

I read that article and see some little old grey haired lady yelling NIMBY. If everything was up to her, I'm sure we'd all still be living in log cabins, riding in buggies down dirt roads.

My new favorite quote:
"'What gives them the right to come in and do this?' she said. "

Just a guess lady, but probably the construction permit as well as the utility right-of-way as surveyed by the city/local government. The local government wanting the project as well as demand for faster internet speeds from customers also probably haven't hurt any.

It's amazing what people complain about for a few hours of inconvenience or some trampled grass. If they aimlessly drove through your flowerbed for no reason, then you have something to complain about. If they sliced your sprinkler line and refused to repair it, then you have something to complain about. If they walked across your lawn, you have nothing to complain about. If they left an unsightly green box at surface level in your back yard that you didn't ask for, think of it as a free gift, and you have nothing to complain about.

I think if they ever hit my area, I'll hang up a nice big Welcome! sign on my house

They've been in my area the last few weeks. I told my wife that she should feel free to bring them drinks, food, or help with any other "needs" they might have if it help speed up the process. She just gave me a dirty look.

There was even a guy out splicing yesterday. I told my wife that there was some rare wildlife in my back yard. It was the elusive balded orange-vested fibersplicer. I was surprised to see them working the holiday. Actually, figuring they were getting triple time for working on a holiday, I'm not surprised.

I like the line "I feel sorry for the next neigborhood" Well I'd just like to say that I am willing to let the next one be mine. I'm a tough man. I can handle the large burden of getting super fast internet, crystal clear phone, and 100% digital HDTV delivered to my door all at less than Comcast. Don't leave this weight on Mrs. Kirks shoulder, just bring it all right over here and let me indure this excruitiating pain.

Around here, we do things a little different. You see, it's Texas, it's hot, and we like everything fast. Fast cars, fast women and fast internet.

So fill up an ice chest with beer, put Verizon employees and contractors only on it, and set it out by the crew.

I thought Texans liked everything big ?

I can't rely on the honor system around here - especially when it comes to an ice chest full of beer, lol.

If those 30 men show up in my yard, I might need to take a dip in your pool to cool off myself

The crews have just about finished laying the conduit here in my Millersville neighborhood. We can't wait for Vz to blow the fiber thru them and hook us up.

Some people did have some electrical or cable or telephone service issues and I heard ALL about it at our Community Meeting. Many of those folks will complain just for the sake of complaining. I never had any service interuptions.

One of my neighbor ladies did express some surprise when she looked out the BR window in her nightie late one morning to see 25 guys lounging around under the trees in the front yard taking a break. I think she got a little thrill from it....

15/2 here I come.
