It's pretty lame to think that a company would invest millions in a backbone and not want to sell it if it were ready and available to you. Think about it.
Be patient. |

$90 for internet plus i have to bundle my phone and TV with them? No thanks... ..and a 1 year contract too.. don't forget that... Surewest is riddled with many things under the surface... here's a few:
1) Their static IP addresses are $7.90 per month (limit 6) are not to be considered permanant and can be changed by Surewest, with notice. So are they static or what? With my Qwest DSL, my static IP IS mine.. as a matter of fact, they go as far to register it in my name, and give me reverse DNS.. now THAT'S a static IP.
2) No servers allowed.
3) Don't post off topic on newsgroup servers on the internet as it's a violation of the AUP.
4) Here's a good one. Everytime you use the service, be reminded that you agree to pay them for it! hahaha
5) UNLIMITED USAGE. SureWest's unlimited accounts are flat-rate for normal and reasonable metered usage. As the previous sentence says, there are reasonable limitations on this usage. Those limitations are spelled out in the SureWest Acceptable Use Policy. If the Member is continuously using the SureWest system, by means of acting as a provider of Internet services to others, then the use is abusive, and serves as grounds for termination of Customer's account without a refund. (SO THERE IS A CAP!)
6) CONCURRENT USAGE. SureWest strictly prohibits more than one concurrent connection per account. Unless otherwise agreed, concurrent usage serves as grounds for termination of Customer's account without a refund. - But remember, they say that it can handle multiple computers...
Just to name a few... anyone ever read the FiOS terms of service? If they did, they wouldn't be so happy any more. |

Haven't needed it yet, but when I ordered my static IP address, I was told I could have reverse DNS if I wanted.2) No servers allowed. In the AUP found here »www.surewest.com/legal/acceptabl···licy.php no prohibitions against servers except for... web hosting, file sharing, proxy services, or mass email 3) Don't post off topic on newsgroup servers on the internet as it's a violation of the AUP. ...unlike every other ISP that encourages offtopic posts.

6) CONCURRENT USAGE. SureWest strictly prohibits more than one concurrent connection per account. Unless otherwise agreed, concurrent usage serves as grounds for termination of Customer's account without a refund. Where do you see this? Was told multiple computers behind my router were ok. They even offered me an additional IP address when I called to register a new MAC address when I connected a new computer. |

| I actually had a very nice reply to your post, however, BBR went down as I was trying to submit it and lost it all.
Long story short... my post was a cut and paste from their TOS document found at »www.surewest.com/legal/terms_of_service.php
You will see eveything that I sated is in there. AUP, TOS.. doens't matter as long as they disclaim somewhere a rule to follow and you agree, you are bound to it.
I am a long time resident of Sacramento/Roseville (born an raised way back when it was still all farm land. Surewest is nothing more than Roseville Telephone and though called Surewest, they still act like they did when it was Roseville Telephone. The ONLY thing that I will say I enjoyed about that company was the money I made off their stock years ago.

| reply to fiberguy Surewest is B.S. the FIBER is only available in certain parts of Sacramento, not the large majority.
EG: they have a headquarters in North Highlands, but do NOT serve north highlands, or many surrounding areas. It dates back to dumbass people in charge of Sacramento city/Winfirst of infrastructure.
Anyway, they COULD roll out fiber to the whole city, but why would they want to do that, when they CAN provide crappy DSL to ignorant people. Just like everything else in business, why provide a better service, for a cheaper price when ignornant, and/or stupid people will pay more for crappier service.
EG: majority of U.S.
$250 in japan gets you a 250mb Fiber line NO UPSTREAM CAP NO DOWNSTREAM CAP.
$50 back east w/verizon was 10mb for a short period, until they realized the same thing surewest did, and made a tier.
I'm a biz customer, and am thinking of laying ocean fiber from japan to california and starting my own ISP:)
While surewest fiber speedis awesome, there is NO justification for bandwidth caps - it's only a business decision. Re: dsl/cable/other isps, it's not when canthey offer faster uploads - it's when will customers demand it in force; they already have capability. |

| testyza33, sorry but that was a hard post to follow.
But, to address a few of your statements,...
1) WinFirst went bankrupt, if you recall, and Roseville Telephone bought it through the process, and then changed the name to Surewest partly on an image change
2) Sure is is currently wiring sacramento, one area at a time. It does take time and money.. They just started a few years back.
3) Regarding Japan? We aren't in Japan.
4) You can say that there is NO justification for bandwidth caps all you want, but I already gave you several reasons why they do. However, you kinda saved it when you said that it's only a business decision,... kinda. Please give us a reason why, if it weren't either a cost factor or shared issue, why Surewest would cap the service?
I am also curious, as to your posts.. where do you get your information from. Are they based on fact? or suspicion? or even worse, on what you read here in the forums?
Serious question.. I'd love to know what you base your comments on.
For other readon on Surewest... here you go..
Facts About SureWest
- SureWest Communications is parent to the largest incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC) headquartered in California, SureWest Telephone.
- SureWest has the largest number of fiber-to-the-home connections in the United States with over 16,000 customers in the Sacramento/Roseville corridor.
- SureWest Telephone has one of the highest residential DSL penetration rates in the country at over 24 percent.
- SureWest Telephone is capable of providing DSL service to 100 percent of its service area.
Pretty impressive for a crappy company. |
