 | [trouble] Tech support gave up on my installation problem I am trying to get verizon DSL installed on my sister's computer, I've been trying for over 2 weeks and still can't get it to work. I've spent between 4-6 hours on the phone with different verizon techs and none of them can fix it. The DSL modem is running and I get steady green lights, but every time that I enter a web site, the connection times out and fails. The tech can see my modem (a Westell 327w), and I have an "up" ppp connection.
The last tech told me that the problem is with the computer and has nothing to do with DSL or the service. He said that the problem is "the computer cannot resolve domain host names", he then told me to contact my pc vendor and have them help me fix the problem. I think that this is a cop-out, because their knowledge base doesn't have an answer to the problem, but I don't know what this is or how to fix it, and maybe it is a software problem. I'm thinking of re-installing the operating system to see if this fixes the problem, but before I do this I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. |

|
 | The tech had me ping yahoo.com from the command line and nothing happened. Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact message that came back. He then had me ping an exact IP address (I didn't write it down so I don't remember it) which did give back a value, and I think that he said that this was a verizon IP address. |

stony join:2004-04-13 Mineola, NY | being that you can ping a numeric ip address that is why he told you have computer issues this can be fixed by repairing something called winsock there is nothing wrong with your dsl connection you mentioned reinstalling your os that would also most likely fix your problem |
|
 | I just did a quick google on winsock and found a couple of people who had similar problems like mine. I think this pointed me in the right direction. GREAT JOB!!!! |

Re: [trouble] Tech support gave up on my installat Could also be that DNS is not working on your TCP/IP settings, or your not connecting to the DNS server.
Also this program may be able to help with Winsock if it is the problem:
Also another site that may be helpful:

 | WindowsME = Winsock Error!

I had a co-worker who mad WinME and the same WinSock problem. It took two weeks and a Tier III engineer to conclude that it was a WinSock err. |
