You people are crazy. Verizon is Sh!t. They cut cable lines everyday to try to make there service look better. You switch and you'll see that the service sucks. Yes it may not cost as much but read the fine print... You get what you pay for.

I asked my FIOS installers to string the fiber a little closer to the cable TV line - so that it didn't hang down so much lower - They adjusted it a bit but said they were under strict orders not to touch or cross the cable company lines. I see that they wrap and bundle FIOS lines with old copper lines along the street - but maintain a strict separation from the cable lines.
Much as each service would like to cut the other - I think 99.99% of the line men (and women) out there know that both companies will lose if they start playing those kind of games. |

| reply to neutronic It was not completed in the last special session. It's essentially done but they still have a couple of things that need to be completed in committee before it goes to Governor Perry for signature.
They won't do anything with it until the school reform funding bills are complete. They reconvene tomorrow afternoon. |

Ed, If I recall you are in Great Neck, and they are already in talks with VZ for a franchise agreement. They met a few weeks ago, but no word if progress was made. Also, NY is not doing a statewide franchise agreement anytime soon. Here is the Newsday article on the talks between Great Neck and VZ: »www.newsday.com/business/ny-bzca···eadlines |

| reply to neutronic Any updates on the franchise agreements for Wyckoff/ Bergan County? I'm wondering if there's an official number we can call for updates...
Cablevision finally added GSN to their lineups, so it looks like for now we'll be going with IO Digital Cable, but we're still interested in the VErizon deals .. |

| Has anyone heard of any talk about FiOS TV in Morris County, NJ? They just recently laid fiber down for internet and are installing in about a week. Or shall I keep it known in my head that if they just recently ran the fiber I should not expect the TV service anytime soon.

| I talked to my father who works for comcast, he knows cable tv well as he has been in the business for years, he told me it wont be surprising if the state takes a year to sign it. Once the state signs it, the way the state law is setup, verizon has to make an agreement with all the towns they want to install service to. If one town says yes the next one over can say no and that will be how the Service will be distributed. This I do not have any sources on the law just from what my father told me. So people of NJ can expect to wait awhile. |

| I just got Comcasts HD service. I have to say so far im extremely disappointed. Channels are looking blury (not only on the HD-TV) had to call 3 times to get an actual appointment to get a guy to check it out. He ran a line from the main line directly and said the problem was on the main line and he would setup a tech to work on it. Called 3 days later... no appointment. Got one now. Two of the digital local stations block up every second so they are unwatchable. There are VERY few actual HD channels even offered (but i knew that going on).
Overall I can't wait for FIOSTV to come to MoCo. |

| reply to eXodus Either your father doesn't know as much as you think or you're misunderstanding something somewhere.
The whole idea of a statewide franchise agreement is to do away with the need for individual franchise agreements. There would only be one needed. |
|
eXodus Premium join:2005-08-04 Rockaway, NJ | As far as I'm concerned, right now, they will need a town by town agreement, unless they get the state wide passed which like Owen mentioned (read his port) will negate the town by town negotiations.
