| reply to SuperG03 Re: FiOS TV Features Update
said by SuperG03 :If I remember correctly, at least here in TX, VZ offers DSL & satelite TV in a deal, so maybe he got something similar to that. I highly doubt it was FIOS TV though. If that person could call back up and get some more detail, that would be great. SuperG03 You're probably right, it might have been DirecTV they were pushing, and not FIOS TV. I am waiting for a franchise agreement to be signed for up here, since the franchise tv footprint (various villages) have all been wired and turned on. Just need the franchise agreement and TV can be offered, assuming VZ has the VDH up and running. |

@comcast.net | reply to neutronic Great information on the focus group for Verizon. If there is anything else that you found interesting I would be glad to know since I am doing a research project on the Verizon FiOS rollout. |

1 edit | Fishman better not hold this up! I am sick of Lake Success making a big stink over FIOS since VZ started putting the fiber on the poles, they complained in the Great Neck Record about it. Keeping my fingers crossed for good news.
I found her info:
Alice Fishman Chair, GN/NSCC Village of Russell Gardens 6 Tain Drive Great Neck, NY 11021 482-8246/ fx 482-8259
We know where to call and complain if she doesn't move this forward. |

Verizon TV must be less than Dish, not just the cable's fee.
300 channels, 18 sport,.... sounds like marketing lingo. Hype sometimes tries to overshadow the final cost.
Anyone shop for a new car lately?
Hope my Telco company doesn't screwup their opportunity.

@alcatel.com | reply to TripmasterG Encoding is done in the VHO - Video Hub Office then the data transmission is sent to a settop box... Think of it as Video on demand but in real-time (except for the delay for the encoding and transmission to your box...) |

| reply to neutronic Can't say how accurate this info is but I talked to a fios rep. last night and he said that one of the packages for the TV service will include around 180 channels for $35.00 a month. Seems like a good price to me so we will have to wait and see.
He also siad that in the next 2 months it will be rolling out in Keller Texas which is the test bed for it. |

Sweet!:) Even two simultaneous recordings with Cox hasn't been enough for us some nights. |

At least that is how DirecTV works. -- Let me 'splain. [pause] No, there is too much. Let me sum up. |

| reply to neutronic I have a question regarding how does FiOS TV get to the TV? What type of cable to do they use or can their service go over the cable that is already run to each room. |

1 edit | From what I have got out of these forums they will use a coax cable from the ONT to the TV.
I can't say this for sure until they hook somebody up but this is what I have gotten out of reading these forums.
Even if it is regular coax cable I doubt they will be able to use the coax that is already there because the local cable company that installed it would probably be a little upset to see there service being disconnected only to find there competetor using the coax they installed but I don't know that for sure. |

The cable company isnt going to have any say over the coax allready in the house. What are they gonna do? "Oh, going to another provider? Lets waste some money, send out some guys, and rip out our cable!"? |

I don't think the local cable company had anything to do with installing the cabling inside MY house. |

| The local cable company doesnt have anythign to do with the cable inside your house. You own that house, and most likely they didnt put in in, some low payed carpenter most likely put that in. They have nothing to do with whats in your house. What about DirecTV or Dish, they dont have nothing to do with the cable in your house already, and its the same cable that cable companies use. O and i heard someplace that it goes though Cat 5e, it might of been some place in these forums, cause like newer ONT's dont have hte RG6 port? Maybe i was just dreaming, lol. |
