Reason I ask is because Jeff Levy is a hump and is owned bu whomever will pay him the most. Saturday's and Sunday's starting at 11AM KFI 640 has the guru of computer information on the air, Leo Laporte, late of Tech TV.

I would call IBM pre-sales support first thing, tell them your story, and check if a NEW ThinkPad purchased here is covered by warrantee in Israel (I am 95% sure it will be), once they confirm it, go to »www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid···&cat=NBB and look at this new IBM Centrino 1.6GHz 256MB 40GB CDRW/DVD w/XP Pro Notebook
This company is in San Diego and UPS ground shipping is next day here in L.A. I can vouch for them as I have done plenty business with them over the last 6 years.
Hope this helps. |

i am glad to learn of the israeli store that sells the used laptops and i had completely forgotten about geeks.com. i now agree that jeff levy and his sponsor suck although they had a good radio ad for an acer laptop last weekend. i had toshiba in mind also and had forgotten about sony. one of my friends just got a sony and is pleased with it. i have a month to play with this project so at least i am not too pressed.
thanks again |

| reply to dogma Another vote for IBM and for ComputerGeeks.
I have a ThinkPad 600e which I bought from the Geeks that has been performing yeoman service for me. However, you might want to consider ordering your ThinkPad direct from IBM:

Yes, IBM's Think lines are now being made by Lenovo, but apparently IBM still has some off-lease stuff available. Look seriously at Centrino T-series models. They are BUILT. -- Online since 1987, thinking different since 1995, Linux-friendly since 1997, Broadband since 1999. Where do I want to go today? Wherever I want! |

Irv6744 join:2001-12-02 Marina Del Rey, CA | reply to Irv6744 i called lenovo and they told me that the warranty on the u.s. product would be honored in israel. i called hp and they told me the hp warranty would not be honored in israel. so i am looking at the thinkpad. it seems newegg is cheaper than geeks.com and if i ship it to my daughter in chicago there is no sales tax. now i have to figure out the differences in the thinkpads. i do want a centrino but r series - t series etc makes me nuts. more reading to do and i have to check out the ibm stores site. this thread has been extremely helpful to me. thanks |

Shaun KCrosseyed And Painless. join:2001-09-07 Beaverton, OR | reply to Irv6744 I just bought a Thinkpad T42 to replace the company laptop I'm giving up. I also bought one for my dad since his Dells keep breaking on him. I was about to order both from newegg.com but found a significantly better price from sparco.com. I highly recommend them (both Sparco and IBM).
A footnote on the IBM warranty....I had a friend who was in Beijing when his Thinkpad had a failure. They were out the next day to replace the failed hardware under warranty. Pretty impressive to me.
Footnote #2...I used to do IT support for some of the high-level executives at SoCalGas/Sempra. They all used Thinkpads and no matter where they were in the world we could get an IBM tech and/or hardware to them within a day. -- This speedtest applet has not calculated a sensible result. |

Free shipping, and no sales tax - since it's in NY:
