| reply to wxboss Re: Your Opinion on SpywareGuard
I use Spyware Guard along with many other things and all have played well with each other.

This is the answer, along with common sense, to many problems that get people into trouble. -- JKK Age is a very high price to pay for my maturity. If I can't stay young, I can at least stay immature! |

SpywareGuard = smaller footprint (load on memory) than other competing products, including MS Anti-Spyware, Spybot TeaTimer, SpySweeper, etc.
For me, I've reduced the number of real-time protection, and I've only used SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard, Spyware Block List, and MVPS Hosts file, along with AVG AV Resident Protection, and I've not had any problems. I am confident that going with this set of programs helps to protect my Windows operating system computers.
Of course, for checks and balances, I do check my systems from time to time with MS Anti-Spyware, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE, along with Anti-Trojan proggies, like Ewido, TDS-3, and Trojan Remover. I also check my computers with updated AV programs on a daily basis. -- ionSKY Wireless ISP - 2.4GHz - 802.11b - 1.0MB/384kbps | Dell Dimension 4550/WinXP Pro/SP2/768MB Ram -- Dell Inspiron 5150/WinXP Pro/SP2/512MB Ram |Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1.5 | NAT Router/Firewall | NETGEAR WGT624v2 Wireless Firewall/Router |

| reply to wxboss I stopped using spywareguard for a while when I started using ms antispyware. However, I feel as though another layer couldn't hurt much especially since it doesn't slow down my system. Therefore, I'm running it again. I do not run tea-timer though. |

| reply to wxboss I use MSAS, WinPatrol, Spybot's Tea Timer, SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard together without any problems whatsoever. You will get multiple popup warnings at times, but what if you got some malware that disabled MSAS or WinPatrol or whatever? Wouldn't you want a backup running just incase? That's why I run them together even though there is some overlap in protection. Here's a site explaining what each program protects. »www.dozleng.com/updates/index.ph···edundant |

| reply to wxboss I still run SpywareGuard.
A question about Teatimer aka Spybot SD resident. I installed it as an admin, but normally run my XP SP2 using a limited account and I see it not running on systray. So it works only with administrator user accounts? |

| reply to Nogard is me said by Nogard is me :I don't use it any more. I use MS Anti-spyware. Should I go to spyware gaurd or should I use teatimer. Right now I'm using MS Anti-Spyware in conjunction with SpywareGuard. From what I've seen so far, they should compliment each other pretty well. |

SpywareGuard used to get regular updates. I just did a cursory search and couldn't find it, but in addition to the Wilders post Javacool did state in another post somewhere that SG is at a point where it needs a total rebuild to do any additional updates. Yes, it is still a good product and still offers protection but it does need updating. | reply to wxboss said by wxboss :Thanks for the feedback everyone. I guess I'll throw one more question out there...Have you run into any problems with SG running along side other anti-spyware apps for example, Spybot or MSAS? I'm just wondering if the real time protection provided by two different programs causes any problems or conflicts. BTW: that's a great link mers2. Considering how recent the tests were done, I'm convinced SG is still doing its job. I've never had a problem with SG with Spybot or Counterspy when either has been running resident protection. SG has always seemed to play nice with other security programs. Javacool does good work. -- God put me on this Earth to accomplish a certain number of things. | reply to wxboss I used to have it and really liked it. But for some reason when I got my Verizon software installed suddenly the spyware guard started going nuts because of course the Verizon changed my homepage which was ok with me and I told it to allow that but it would not let it happen kept popping up like mad and then my CPU usage went to 100% and would stay there as long as I had the spywareguard on. I tried removing the program totally and doing a reinstall but it did the exact same thing 100% CPU so I can no longer run it had to delete it.
I do have spywareblaster and it is fine. |
