A comparison of anti-spyware applications versus Hotbar was done here: »www.dozleng.com/updates/index.ph···pic=5275 and SpywareGuard did it's job and prevented it from being installed. It's not perfect without current updates but it is one more layer in the layered approach.

SpywareGuard is not supposed to be updated, due to its hueristic scanning engine, read this thread from Javacool which explains why:

EDIT: BTW, I have used it on 3 different boxes, one Win 98, , 2 XPs, one home, one Pro, I never hear anything unless I make changes myself(Pro box is test box, its only barked once)Its a great lil app.

Not completely true. SpywareGuard used to get regular updates. I just did a cursory search and couldn't find it, but in addition to the Wilders post Javacool did state in another post somewhere that SG is at a point where it needs a total rebuild to do any additional updates. Yes, it is still a good product and still offers protection but it does need updating.
