Max speed by Telco (ILEC) / Acceptable Distance

DirecTV Broadband mainly re-sells Telephone Company (Telco / ILEC) ADSL
with the death of Northpoint and Rhythms. Now, the company plans to soon offer Worldcom RADSL. Currently, the inherited IDSL and SDSL connections from defunct ISPs are still active circuits.

Max Speeds and Acceptable Distance are varied by ILEC!

Carrier          Max Speeds        Distance                   

Ameritech* 768k/160k Up to ft 15,500ft - 15,500ft on RT
Most CO based facilities installed before 6/1/02 are 896k/160k

PacBell 1536k/128k Up to 15,000ft - 15k on RT
160k upload on RT


Verizon 768k/160k NOW up to 18,000ft


SWBell 1536k/128k Up to 14,000ft - 14k on RT
160k upload on RT


BellSouth 1536k/256k Up to 18,000ft - 18k on RT

QWest 640k/256k Up to ?ft - ?k on RT

Worldcom 1536k/768k Up to ?ft - ?k

* notation indicates PPPoE to the same IP handled internally and automatically
by the gateway... in other words, PPPoE that doesn't bug you
