| Ad-Watch activity log pops up on boot....
I recently updated Ad-Aware SE Plus to v1.06r1. I run Ad-Watch and with the latest update I can't find a way to stop the Ad-Watch activity log from popping up every time I boot.
I dropped Lavasoft a request for tech support...no joy. Maybe not surprising since their web site still says v1.05 is the latest.
Anyway, can anyone tell me how to prevent the Ad-Watch activity log from opening every time I boot?

I'm not an Adwatch expert, but have put out the word to summon a few that I know may be able to answer. I'm sure someone will show up soon with some suggestions for you |

Of all the topics covered on this forum, this one is pretty low priority. But it's a minor annoyance and I wouldn't mind fixing it if someone knows how to do so.

| reply to jefe I'm in chat right now with Canuk, an AAW expert and I sent him a link to this thread...he sez:
[10:12] he could try this and see if it stops it: [10:12] Make sure the following boxes are checked: [10:12] Start adwatch minumized (this item is optional but preferred so its not in the [10:12] way) [10:12] Ad-watch will launch minimized to the task bar. [10:12] [10:12] Start adwatch in autoblocking mode [10:12] Ad-watch will automatically block all suspicious activity. [10:14] the option is in the Tweak Settings section of AdAware under Expert Settings>AdWatch [10:15] I am not sure that is the answer but those are the option I have checked. -- It takes a disaster to make a woman out of a female Gladiator Security Forum Proud Member of ASAP (Alliance of Security Analysis Professionals) |

| reply to jefe Hi Jefe I am not sure that is the answer but these are the options I have checked and I don't experience the problem you are having.
Open AdAware, and go to the Tweak Settings section of AdAware. Under Expert Settings>AdWatch. Make sure the following boxes are checked: Start adwatch minumized (this item is optional but preferred so its not in the way) Ad-watch will launch minimized to the task bar.
Start adwatch in autoblocking mode Ad-watch will automatically block all suspicious activity.
I hope that helps you. It has been a while since I configured AdWatch, but it seems to me this is the solution. If not I am sure someone else will come by soon.
Best of luck |

| reply to canuk9 Thanks all...especially canuk.
I looked and looked and looked and never found that setting.
BTW, let me ask another Ad-Watch question now that the first issue's been solved.
Do you need to manually update Ad-Aware definitinos periodically to also have Ad-Watch updated?
Seems like there oughta be some way to have Ad-Watch auto-update like you do with any a/v application, but if there is, it's something else I can't find.

| Hi, jefe. Sorry about the non-reply from Lavasoft email support. Perhaps they are behind due to summer holidays?
The sites.txt file you obtained with Build 1.06 would have been the most recent. According to the website, it was last updated in November. See »www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
However, you can manually update Ad-Watch quite easily. Right click on Ad-Watch in the system tray, select Tools & Preferences and under the Popups section you can add or remove URL's.
Ad-Watch also uses the Definition File so every time you update the Def File, Ad-Watch is updated.

This is absolutely unacceptable. This customer has paid money to Lavasoft for a product and subsequent product support.
Where is the paid support ?
If this was me Lavasoft would be receiving a strongly worded complaint and a request for partial/full refund since paid support is AWOL.
Any thoughts/explanations LS MikeW for this customer ?
Potential new customers beware:( Lavasoft customer support is a lottery! |

1 edit | reply to jefe Hi jeff, The manual that comes with your version of Adware is very good and comprehensive at understanding all the functions and tweaks. If you get a chance..read it to get the best use of it and to even answer all the question you have posed so far.
Then basically..
Ad-Watch is the real time monitor included in the Ad-Aware SE Plus and Professional packages. Ad-Watch goes beyond what other security suites offer by adding another layer of protection to your system proactively. It runs silently in the background, watching for Malware/parasites that try to install on or modify your system.
While Ad-Aware SE detects and cleans your system from known Malware and advertising parasites, Ad-Watch goes even further by catching these programs before they can integrate into your system. If Malware/parasites are detected, Ad-Watch pops up, unloads the particular module and launches Ad-Aware. You can change the action taken by Ad-Watch in the options menu. There are additional settings in Ad-Aware SE in the Tweak Options.
You can lock the startup sections of your registry, block possible and actual browser hijack attempts, block suspicious processes, lock executable file associations, Block malicious cookies, block Pop-ups, and uses the all new CSI technology to protect you from unknown variants as well. Even if Ad-Watch is turned off and something DOES install onto your system, it will recognize it and will kill the process as soon as it has seen it when turned back on.
Ad-Watch will also enable you to continue using detectable processes through its filtering technology. This is accomplished simply by placing Ad-Watch in manual blocking mode and then, when Ad-Watch alerts to the applicable process, select the "Allow" button in the Popup warning. The process has now been added to Ad-Watch's filter list which can be accessed by clicking the "Filter" button on the tool screen. In addition, we have also included a rules editor that will allow you to pre-allow changes to your registry when installing other software applications or when making frequent profile changes.

| reply to jefe Corrine...
Tnx for the info.
I'm just surprised that Lavasoft hasn't build in to Ad-Watch an auto-update feature like all a/v programs have.
Name Game....
Tnx for the thoughts, but I read the manual and did some other searching before posting here. I knew the basic stuff you expouded on but couldn't find the answers to my specific questions. If they're there in the manual...my bad. But it's nice to have this forum to fall back on when you stumble elsewhere.
