Re: Speedstream 6520 vs. Alcatel Speedtouch home?

Post line stats
Are u using the 6520 as a router?
If not, why not just get the 5200
(^assuming u r using sympatico?^)
Yes, Alcatel's are very reliable. If you can get one, get one. These modems are very good.

It may just be ur line, which is why u should post the line stats.

I'm away from home right now but here is what it ususally is:

SNR of 11 on average
Attenuation of 63.5

I'll post the screenshot ones as soon as I get back, the Tx FEC tends to be at a total of around 20000 after a few hours, the Rx is only about 5000 total after a few hours.

My setup is:

6520 -> Linksys WRT54G w/ 3 wireless clients & D-Link 1120M VoIP gateway plugged in to a port

My speed profile is the 1728/640 one. I have the 6520 as that is what they sent me (I signed up a month or so ago). I ordered an Alcatel Speedtouch Home from eBay (we have one at my parents place and it is awesome) so we'll see how that goes.

I have both modems. My line is similar to your, i.e. SNR ~10 and attenuation ~63.0. The 6520 gives a better speed. I can get upto 1.4Mbps (~170KB/s) downstream. My STHome only gives upto 1Meg (115KB/s.) I think something is wrong with my STHome.

The STH are starting to show their age (specially the K versions); try to get a v510 or better a v516 (ADSL2 ready), they handle poor lines very well.
