Update:
I entered the new DNS servers into the NIC config, and I've been running OK for 4 days now...
Thanks!!

1 edit | reply to Some Dude The wpad.launchmodem.com is most likely the launchmodem used to access the modems configuration screen. In place of entering 192.168.1.254 (default Ip) into the browser, you can just type launchmodem and it will bring up the configuration screen for the modem. Also I think anytime you enter the default IP to access the modem it may show up in the log as launchmodem. |

| reply to Missinglink Well, all the spyware is cleaned up. I've reinstalled Firefox (even though I found IE didn't work either, there was a new FF version out). I've reset the modem and reconfigured it.
I don't get the DNS redirection error any more, but I am still getting disconnected. Sometimes clicking the 'restart connection' button works, sometimes I have to clear the cache to get it to work. I've changed the DNS servers to 4.2.2.5 and 4.2.2.6 in case this was a DNS issue, but I'm still intermittently dropping out. Does anyone have any other ideas? I'm ready to replace this thing again...
Thanks, Ryan |

| reply to Some Dude I don't know if it matters, but I've had my 6100 since last December and rarley get disconnected and mine always has the Unknown host: 'wpad.launchmodem.com' line on my connection logs. I thought this was normal.
Can someone tell us if this is ok ? |

| reply to Some Dude I just realized I didn't reinstall Spybot when I reinstalled XP last week. I ran it and found a few nasties, and took care of them. I'm still having connection problems, but I haven't seen the DNS warning though. I'm assuming I was getting it from the spyware trying to run with no connection to the net...?
As far as the Always On setting, I have set that a few times, and it keeps reverting back to On Demand...? I've also noticed that sometimes, instead of the DNS warning or the browser's 'Failed to open xxxxx' message, I will get the modem's CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE SET UP YOUR CONNECTION screen.
I'm starting to wonder if I have a bad modem or something. BS has already replaced it once (lightning storms are a you-know-what here in Florida); it looks like they may be coming back out again. What do you think??
Thanks, Ryan |

| reply to neonstorm Two things: 1. Change your modem to always on. »AT&T Southeast Forum FAQ »How do I set the Westell modem to an Always On Connection? 2. Check for spyware and viruses. It is showing a DNS redirect to 'wpad.launchmodem.com' which I personally have never seen before. |
