Anyone having trouble with email

Anyone having trouble with email in the Southeast? Around the Albany Ga. area. Just wonder if something is up with my home network.

Just got off the phone with tech support. It's a known outage and it's expected to last a few hours.

Southern MS is out too. Has been for at least the past 50 minutes. The pop3 server produces the following error message:
POP3< -ERR mail storage services unavailable, wait a few minutes and try again.

Since tech support knows about this outtage, why isn't their system status page ever updated? It's totally useless!

I frequently have problems with BS servers, both outgoing and lots of failures recently with the incoming mail server.

Why not just use a more reliable mail server elsewhere? Oh ya, that's right, BellSouth has decided that you can't and blocked port 25 outgoing to prevent it. Too bad they can't get their act together and run their own mail server better if they are going to force all their paying customers to use it.

This blocking presents a serious problem if you, like me, frequently move your notebook computer between BS and other service providers, or if you have others come visit you who use different mail providers. I used to be able to do all sending through a private e-mail provider available to me (login required to send anything, and aggressive logging, so not a spam source). Now I can't. Anyone visiting me has to reconfigure their mail clients if they check their mail and want to respond to anything, and would have to configure them again once they leave. They usually show appropriate disgust and don't bother.
