Re: 3552 vs 3008 sync rate

It also depends on the vendor of your DSLAM. Only some vendors have been upgraded to the higher sync rate.

Interesting, seems like it's just a random thing almost. Perhaps BS is just experimenting.

I asked my ISP's support and was told the sync rate will drop to 3008 if your circuit is overloaded and that is the lowest it should drop to for Extreme. I don't know enough about the technology to know if that is true or not.

Any reason my line went from 3552 to 3008? I had some line problems a few weeks ago that were resolved but I still don't sync at 3552. I even upgraded my modem from a Speed Touch Home to a Westell 6100. I gained an additional 8dB margin with the new modem. A few people I know in the area have similar stats but get the higher sync.

I'm also in Boynton Beach and have had Extreme since it came out. I'm only about 2000 ft from the RT.

I started at 3008 and have never moved any higher.

Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday--so why bother?

It was quite stable for a while. NetPerSec always showed a solid, flat 2.9Mbps download rate. Then I had an ISP takeover and things started to go downhill after a month or two. There were several outages (with sync up) and I had difficulty establishing PPP sessions. Then I also had a local line problem develop when the heavy rains started. That's when I first noticed the sync rate had dropped since I was keeping an eye on the connection. My SNR dropped to 0-6dB but I still had a max ATM rate of around 6Mbps, even when hovering around a 5dB margin.

BellSouth fixed the line and the ISP seems to have gotten the bugs worked out. Now my line stats are back up and the ISP (was Netrox, now WebUnited) seems to have gotten the bugs worked out.

I'm thinking of moving over to BellSouth but in my tests I seem to be getting slightly better routing and DNS performance.

Its possible your line was adjusted because it wasn't performing well enough at 3552.

I'm just up the road from you, near Lake Worth Rd and US 441, and I sync at 3552, and have since BS changed it a few weeks after Xtreme was relased.

I'm also wondering what reasons bellsouth has for a 3008 sync and 3552 sync. I know the 3552 is the 3mbit/384kbit sync that factors in for overhead, but what conditions on the line would cause you to be bumped to 3008 sync rather than 3552.

I'm about to upgrade my megapath line to 3mbit/384kbit and since I'm in bellsouth country, the sync rates are whatever bellsouth uses. I'm hoping I get synced to 3552/384 but won't know till it happens unless someone has some specifics on what is the deciding factor.
