Thing here is that if there's any signal problems then the modem will constantly be trying to readjust to the fullest speed. And if they're trying to do fast downloads they will see more packet loss which results in more retransmits..

"Extreme is Adelphia's newest level of High-Speed Internet service, with jaw-dropping fast
download speeds of up to 16 Mbps, and upload speeds of up to 2 Mbps (1)."
That little (1) at the end of the sentence points to the "fine print" at the bottom of the screen.
"(1) Adelphia does not guarantee speeds, as the speed of the Adelphia Broadband Service provided to you at
your site will vary depending upon your computer and associated equipment, internet traffic and associated
equipment, and other factors."
I think it would be nice to have those speeds unlocked and the possibility of reaching them. BUT, it will just lead to complaints of "I'm paying for 16/2 and all I get on the speedtest is 12/1.5" When they should be happy to be getting the 12/1.5 in the first place. | |

But, let's not also forget, for the FIOS worshippers out there...

I'm talking speed from the CMTS to the Modem. I had comcast's 6/768 plan before FIOS came and I rarely could get above 5mbps and cust support said my signal was off and each guy that came out said my signal was fine.
However since switching to FIOS I get 15mbps consistently and it's nice to see
downloading @ 2453kbps instead of 520kbps that's for sure. | |
