Re: P334 WAN Routing? There are mixed opinions on this. If the modem is on a different subnet some say you can get out to it through the WAN port of the router. So the modem would need to be something like 192.168.0.254 and the router would need to be 192.168.1.1 But I have never tried it as if it works don't try to fix it and my connection works all the time. No need to get to the modem. If you are having problems and call your ISP's help desk one of the first things they will ask you is IF you have a router and or is the PC connected directly to the modem. If and when I have any problems the first thing I do is take the router out of the mix and connect one PC to the modem directly. -- Shooter Ready--Stand By BEEP ******** |

Some cable modems allow access. I can access my cable modem, a Motorola Surfboard 3100, from the gateway LAN. The modem sniffs the outgoing packets. If the destination address is the cable modem's local IP address (192.168.100.1), the cable modem intercepts the packet and answers. |
