| reply to shavano said by shavano :Or on the flip side, how can anyone think they can sell a Dell monitor for 50% more than you could buy direct from Dell (2405FPW for $1500 vs Dell @ $959)? Or an Apple Cinema for more than you can buy from Apple? I saw some crazy things like that on eBay earlier today as well. Yeah, its nuts. I just looked at the Yahoo Auctions, and came up with a crazy one just like that. An iMac G5 20", minimum bid $2250, Buy it now price $2750. Insane, for something that costs $1799 at Apple.

| reply to xactlywhatis I'm not certain that Virtual PC will even be necessary by the time Apple is complete with their Intel migration. Take a look at the artical below:

I will make a post tomorrow night on where to get great deals on auctions on the web. I actually didn't used ebay but used another place that aparently doesnt have many users but is better for deals. I dont want to post it tonite cus I am also bidding on a 20" display and mac mini for 500 bucks lol and I dont want anyone to bid me out. It is a site everyone on here knows of but just probably doesnt know they have auctions. They only have a hand full of users. |

Yeah, you're probably right. Even if Windows could be made to run natively on the new Mac, I suppose Microsoft would prefer to sell Windows AND VPC, rather than just Windows.
Unless, that is, it's some sort of manhood/mindshare issue for them about not being primary and about trying to use their dominance to stop the spread of OS X. They would never think that way, right? -- Seek truth, not validation of existing beliefs. |

1 edit | reply to xactlywhatis said by xactlywhatis :will virtual pc w/ windows run better once macs use intel? [Edit: Damn, I was slow!]
I'm sure some other people are better qualified than I to answer this, but here goes...
The current PPC version of Virtual PC for Macs will NOT run better on an Intel Mac, assuming it would run at all (which would surprise me). That's because current PPC software for OS X will run under an emulator called Rosetta in the Intel version of OS X.
So you'd have an emulator (VPC) running inside an emulator (Rosetta). I'm sure some people will have technical quibbles with that description.
If Microsoft releases a new version that has Intel binaries and is optimized for the Intel Mac, then yes, it will probably run better, all other things being equal. Probably LOTS better if they properly re-architect the entire thing; but that's doubtful, in my opinion. -- Seek truth, not validation of existing beliefs. |
