AdAware update error

I get an update error when I try to update AdAware. Anyone else having this problem? My AdAware freezes and I get a error after a few mintues that says error connecting server.

I had the same problem last night.

I rebooted my computer and tried again. Coincidence maybe, or maybe it's a server issue and I finally got through.

I reboot my computer also and still couldn't get through. I downloaded and updated manually.

You know what. when I get home I'm going to recheck the version number to see if it actually updated. I'll manually download the update if need be.

Do you, by chance, have the link for that download handy?

Thanks.

Brian

Same problem here. I believe this happened a few weeks ago as well when Adaware had a problem with the update on one server. Unfortunately, they don't permit the user to manually select a different server for the update (a la Spybot Search & Destroy) So it would appear that one has to wait until their balance load "dumps" you to one of their other servers or they fix the problem. I'm not sure which of these two possibilities will happen first...

Yeah I had the same problem yesterday @ about 3;00pm. I got the error message " could not read update file, try to update again" I try several times and got the same message so I decided to wait a couple of hours and @ about 8:00pm the Update went through flawlessly. I have the following version so Ad-Aware SE Personal(Build 1.06r1) I really don't know what the r1 stands for

Hi! There are reports of this problem at many of the security forums. Since some people are able to get the update, I wonder if there is a problem with one of the servers storing the latest update.

You can always try the zip file from »lavasoft.element5.com/support/download/

{BTW, since the last Beta definition file download is for SE1R50, perhaps that program has gone by the wayside as well.}

The reason for this issue was previously pointed out and answered just a few weeks ago:

»What up with ad-aware today?

So is there no simple way to manually select which update server is used, to avoid this kind of problem in future if one AdAware server has the wrong or corrupted update and you have to keep trying until your're connected to another Adaware server?
Hello Blue2,
The system is set up so that we can ballance requests and downloads. It is important to make sure that all users are provided with as efficient a download as possible. We are however reviewing the system on a regular basis to make sure that this type of situation is minimized with a goal of zero occurances.
So unless Adaware changes their procedures, each time they have a corrupted update on a server, you can: (1) keep trying until you get bounced to an Adaware server that does not have a corrupted update (2)wait until Adaware discovers and corrects the problem (3) manually download the update elsewhere or (4) try to convince them to allow the user to manually switch the server used, or to automatically route traffic to a secondary server after repeated failed update attempts happen. I can't imagine that it is very "efficient" to have all the users on one server connecting to a corrupted udpate, while the updates are just fine on all other Adware servers...

My point exactly ... hence, sending another reminder to him would reinforce the ultimate goal ... a user being able to painlessly update the Ad-Aware definition file.

It seems Lavasoft Ad Aware update is becoming a lottery by being as (un)reliable as its E-Mail customer support for their paid customers.

Too busy counting their profits to bother with these trivialities
