the one i am inquiring about is highlighted as seen above.
i read that it is an 'activeX' object, hence my concern.

my Xp Pro Sp2 updates fine, i have the latest updates from microsoft, and i dont think i should remove this entry. or should i ?
{btw, searching for 'WUwebcontrol class' at MS knowledge base turns up nothing}

That's for Windows Update

The O16 entries are the ActiveX modules installed on your system. The one in question is for Windows Updates. If it bothers you, delete it. The next you go to Windows Update it will be installed again.

Looks like the Windowsupdate Active X control for Internet Explorer.

Doesn't look like anything to worry about.

'016' entries can usually be checked at
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files
File properties will show what website/domain the ActiveX was downloaded from.
The domain is a fairly decent litmus test re the legitamability (:)) of the ActiveX in question.
