Here is professional (but free) software MHDD: »mhddsoftware.com/. As so as you have non booting drive, probably, it is the strongest software for this task today, because it does not use BIOS. Here is a related Forum: »mhddsoftware.com/forum/.

To be careful at recovery data with that tool!

 I've looked at that site, and I'm not sure how that would help with most data recovery tasks. At least, not for any average user.

Maybe SpinRite would be between recovery and that tool, but again, unless it's hardware failures, not likely to help.
