Haha, this filing is a great read.
LiveVoip was a service run on TWO SERVERS by a college kid. His MOM is now filing for bankruptcy after he ran up a $90,000 debt.
LiveVoip: "Hey mom, I have this great idea..." LiveVoip's Mom: "You're grounded."
His mom must be soooo pissed.
Makes me laugh at all those penny-pinchers that ditched reputable companies for this 1.1¢/min joke and got burned.

| They had $63.25 in the bank when they filed. I noticed that some people had prepaid up to $5000!! They only got to me for $2.60
I remember talking to a Joop Cleasou (sp?) at LiveVoip who claimed to be a VP. Said they had 30+ support prople maning the phones. I accused them of being a garage shop operation and he acted highly offended. I was pretty close. What a acam. -- "Put down that coffee...coffee is for closers" |

IMO, two servers isn't unreasonable for a small provider when you're just doing SIP and you have RTP going elsewhere (Level 3, Voice Conduits, and Telesthetic mainly, from the looks of things), but having the servers in the same co-lo probably is. Still, there was FAR more bark than bite coming out of them...
(Their attitude and constantly playing with pricing scared me off.)
The company was formed as an LLC, which means the mother isn't filing a personal BK -- the LLC is filing a business BK.

| reply to gunji01man Never heard of LiveVoIP. Pretty obvious, to me, Packet8's service is inadequate.
But, BroadVoice heading for bankruptcy? Worst case I'll get tagged for a month's worth of service that never gets delivered (~$10) They certainly did (should have?) take a business pounding for their temporary debacle with Global Crossing that left a whole lot of customers out cold for days and days while BV scrambled replace GC.
OTOH, we've enjoyed BV for 1+ years and can recommend them for a cheap service with quality connections, *** IF *** you can tolerate an occasional snafu.
IMHO, ALL VoIP providers suffer snafus occasionally, regardless of how much you pay them.
FWIW, BV works pretty good for teenagers burning up 1000s of minutes to / from almost solely local calls.
However, when snafu's do hit, the experiences certainly are painful / frustrating!!! -- Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all other forms of government. - Winston Churchill |

I also find it unlikely that BV will go belly up, at least not anytime soon. For as small as they are, they are one of the largest (Id say in the top 10 providers of consumer grade VoIP in the US) and the most innovative not to mention that they have corporate money behind them and offer more features and better rates wile probably sustaining a decent profit margin for the VoIP business. They still remain competitive even after the meltdown because most people understood the concept of crap happens, and is to be expected occasionally with VoIP. My service has not been down sense the meltdown so they seem to be getting back up on their feet so I dont worry.

| Not to go off topic -- but how exactly do you figure that BroadVoice is the most "innovative"? They haven't created anything! Their entire web portal is the standard Broadsoft platform which every other provider using that switch has. On top of that, their customer service is the worst in the industry. Hardly innovative by any standard. |

Once he even purported to be calling me from a Colo in Britain... he shined me all kinds of flashy speed talk about how they were going to do Vonage type of service very soon, how there was as erver being brought online in Phoenix, how they were toning up switches allover, and most importantl, how they could call up the VPs at Level3 and get anything they wanted.
Without a doubt, these guys need to be prosecuted for fraud. They knowingly lied to me DURING the time that they were selling service they KNEW they could not deliver.
It is a shame tha tno one has announced plans to get them. If I was one of the people owed tons of money, I would be contacting the District Attorney in Mesa, AZ to let them know what happened.
Cheers, Wiley

Hardly innovative by any standard. Actually they are innovative, not necessarily in features (although they do have some very good features) but in service plans and customer flexibility. They are one of the first providers to offer FANTASTIC international calling packages at a flat monthly rate but they are also one of the few to fully embrace BYOD. They are also striving to build a global network by deploying servers overseas.

P.S. their CS via telephone is fantastic in my experience. Even during the meltdown I got though to them in ~30mins. And more recently it has been less then 3mins. |
