[Vonage] CAN'T CANCEL VONAGE

Vonage is amazing. I call to cancel and after 25 minutes on hold then 15 minutes of the customer service rep asking me to hold. She comes back and I quote WE ARE NOT TAKING CANCELLATIONS AT THIS TIME. We will have to have someone call you back in the next day or so. So glad I switched with crap like this.

Hey, at least you got someone on the phone! When Sprint got their line cut here, I was off for two days. No one would take the trouble call seriously until the second day. No more of that for me!

you could call your credit card company, and have them block any further charges, then wait for Vonage to call YOU.. hehe..

FWIW, i have Vonage, and love it..

Credit Card companies will NOT "block" charges from a merchant. Unless you totally cancel the card, you have to dispute charges "one-by-one".

I guess there were not enough people in Customer Retention or they are too busy with other people trying to cancel. Remember a tier 1 or tier 2 person can not cancel your account with Vonage. You MUST speak to someone in Customer Retention who are the only ones authorized to do cancellations.

Emails to cancel don't work either or speaking to a Supervisor.

Resistance (and cancellation) is futile! We are the offshore customer service! You will not cancel! We are Vonage.

You should ask to talk to a supervisor.

Do what I do, report the credit card lost and you'll get another one in 7 days.

I would call the bank and tell them exactly what Vonage told me...

You won't like what I have to say but here it goes:

To cancel you call the regular Vonage help number which usually goes to India (weekends you might get Americans). You get a long list of menu options, and you first have to speak to an Indian. They'll try to talk you out of cancelling. If you insist, they then transfer you to an American who again asks why, offers you a discount to stay, etc. and makes you work hard to not cancel but they'll finally cancel your account for you.

Not a fun process but I had to go through it to cancel my Vonage softphone.

Of course, you can always email them but you never know whether they'll do it or not via email.

So even if I LNP out, the service will remain on (without a PSTN number?) until I call India and cancel.

Is that correct?

I did that once, and the company continued to bill the old number, and the CC Co. happily passed the charges through to the newly issued card (with a diff. number).

Update your online account with a new credit card expiration date. The charge will not go through. Do you have a credit card that you would like to cancel? Then update your account with this card and report as lost and cancel the account. Or just make up a credit card number.

If I'm not mistaken, I remember seeing in their TOS that they can charge any credit card you have EVER given them. This is true for many contracts now.

This didn't work for me when a girlfriend of mine mistakenly opened a sub-account on her AOL, when all she wanted to do was add another user. The main account was cancelled, but I still was being charged for the sub-account. AOL made it impossible for me to cancel. The charge still made it to my new card. I learned two things here..never allow a woman to use your charge card and never have any more dealings with AOL.

yes that is correct. I can still callout on vonage.

I would NOT recommend changing your card unless you want to run the risk of Vonage screwing your credit. (reporting it as late on your credit report, or sending it to collections like the telcos do)

I hate the way vonage handles this. I asked to cancel ONE line when I had TWO lines with them. They charged me the cancellation fee even though I was KEEPING one line and thus did not need to return the adapter.

Even worse the only reason I was cancelling was due to the fact they were unable to switch my number after SIX MONTHS of paying both a telco AND vonage bill.

"never allow a woman to use your charge card "

Even better - maybe never let ANYONE use your card unless you're willing to be responsible for all charges that person may make?
