Well if you were reading this on a regular basis you would have noticed about 5 posts about Bell Sympatico internet service got removed from this topic.
The posts were of bells crap, and not a positive form of feedback. Thus the hands in every bodys pockets. Bell is only wanting to here good feedback from people and do not care about the problems people do have. They just simple are a scam.
(Bell) Dialup cost $22.95/month for unlimited (Bell) High-Speed Cost $44.95/month 3mbs-800kbs
(Others) Dialup cost $9.99/month for Unlimited (and lower) (Others) High-Speed Cost $29.95/month 3mbs-800kbs No modem rental.
Oh and when I was with Sympatico High-speed I told them I wanted to purchase the modem to rid the $10/month modem rental fee.
Thy just said that it was not allowed as technology changes so fast and it would not be fees able for us to purchase it. Well I was with them for over 2years so @10/month for 24months that is over 240. I could purchase this modem for around $50. So tell me why it is not fees able. My speed issue with only getting 1.3mbs they told me it was the wiring in my house was bad, when my house is new and ran with cat3. Now I also disconnected all wires to connect to their wire outside and still the same, Oh better yet I live where the Box is located in my yard. Next they told me it was my computer was corrupted, and I had a bad network after I told them I connect using cable at 2.8mbs and I also connect to someone else Wireless Internet in my area using their cable Internet at higher speeds then Bells connection. It was excuse after excuse.
And now that I am not with them they told me they could have waived the modem fee for me to stay with them. Why would this be ok when I am switching to Rogers? Oh and the lady was rood and you should have heard her bad mouth Rogers.
I do not even want to get started into the phone services as this is even bigger with harassing calls to my house. |

Seriously the 5200s run around $99.00 USD to $118.00 USD as a Bridge/Modem and $113.00 USD to $133.00 USD as a Router/Modem. This is without shipping costs being included or sales taxes.
Your pricing is still way low if you bought them in bulk lots of 5,000 (figure $72.00 USD each that way) and I don't think you would be able to do that plus justify your single ADSL line cost.....

| Doctor Olds I do not need to start an argument here as I never stated what modem! Not to mention regardless of the modem I paid over 240 for rental and even with your prices for the 5200 DSL modem I could have purchased 2 thus my point on purchasing it would save money. As well there are other providers that do give you the modem without modem rental fees and allot lower costs as posted.
I guess you were just too tied up in trying to prove wrong instead of reading. But I do not need to prove anything here. |

| Some people I know have had their Alcatel SpeedTouch for over 5 years with Bell, with no failures or a need for an update, as Bell's infrastructure can barely provide half the speed the modem is capable of, 4mbps (ultra) vs 8mbps spec'd maximum for the Alcatel STH.
5+ years at $10/month is a $600+, that's just nuts if you ask me. At LEAST after 2-3 years they should stop charging, man, the modem is PAID for!
The technology has long matured, DSL modems are available for purchase from many local and online retailers. If the customer wants to deal with his own modem, LET THEM! -- }·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´ |

Which I'm sure many would agree to that...

| That's fine Deadpool, they should still offer to rent modems, and that SHOULD be their default, but for christ sake, when a customer wants to, let them use their own modem, or purchase it from Bell.
Business customers have been able to use their modem for years. I don't see a point in forcing the residential people to pay rental, other than pure cash grab.

At LEAST after 2-3 years they should stop charging, man, the modem is PAID for! Worse, I had a Nortel modem for nearly five years, the last two of which were after they started offering DSLAM service. In addition to forcing people to continue to pay rent for what was clearly obsolete technology, Bell also "forgot" to notify us that a "free" speed upgade was available. So not only was I not getting the benefits of the "upgrade insurance" that Deadpool refers to, I was actually paying regular price for less than half the speed that more recent (i.e. less loyal) customers were getting. |

Doctor Olds I do not need to start an argument here It's very simple and not argumentative; you were just wrong on pricing by a factor of 125%. It's no big deal. The 5200 was used as an example. The ISP can choose one or two models to support and let you pay for it, so the cost factor/price point would be within a few dollars of the 5200 pricing even if you substituted a different brand Ethernet/USB combo. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

| Doctor Olds I am beginning to wonder if you work at BELL...
Again you did not read!!!:o AGAIN REGARDLESS THE MODEM I could have purchased it at least twice by even your posted prices. On the high prices!!!
Again as others posted people have paid this price for over five years without having to replace the modem. Thus paying for the modem by how much?
Not to mention I have found the price of the SIEMEN SpeedStream 5200 Ethernet + USB Bridge modem for $93.63 no sale tax as out of state and free shipping in the US. I am sure I would be able to get it cheaper, but again I never said this modem in my posts...
You say Ethernet/USB combo, well not all people need this feature, as I do not. If you can't learn to read a little then what is the point of responding to you? Maybe you need that remedy!!! |

| reply to Doctor Olds I don't see an issue with owning your own modem nor do I think it would up the service. The tend at this time is to own your own modem. More and more companies are offering their services with the option of purchasing the modem or as some are giving you the use of the modem.
With that said the fees have been lowered. eg. Rogers offers the purchase of the modem which in return they increase the speeds but keep the price for the highspeed the same.
Doctor Olds I need not say anymore, you just proved it!!! You made my day with that!!!
How come you got rid of you Dream Car line!!! |

And where are these 5 modems coming from? Not only does the rental act as insurance if the modem ever dies, but it also covers theft. Call your landlord up and tell him that because you've paid rent long enough to buy the appartment that you should no longer pay rent. |

Call your landlord up and tell him that because you've paid rent long enough to buy the appartment that you should no longer pay rent. A better analogy: If you don't want to pay rent you can buy a home, in which case you're responsible for maintenance, repair, upgrades, etc. Bell offers no such option. |

| bylo said it just in the words I would have. This topic is about feedback to Bell. This is feedback in my eyes that could be a good move in their part.
I never wanted to get off topic with Doctor Olds, as I have read alot of his posts with the Speedstream 5200 modem and he seems to have a lot of knowledge with them. Would I say purchase a modem from ebay, NO you don't know what your getting. I am just saying this is an option alot of people would like, and allot of people may switch providers because of this. Maybe not but I was one that did. Just do a DSL search and veiw the competitors that have this option avaliable. I would have to say over 50%.
Not to sure if the rental act covers theft but I will look it up. |

| reply to Billy-Bob "bylo said it just in the words I would have. This topic is about feedback to Bell. This is feedback in my eyes that could be a good move in their part." So let me get this straight...
Instead of paying ~$45.00 a month for internet service, which covers the $10.00 modem rental, and is on par with some of bells competitors...
you would rather pay $35.00 a month with the modem rental removed just so you can buy your own modem, but to use the house analogy, you would pay for repairs and upgrades on your line when they happen?
I would pay to see the look on your face when you recieve a letter stating: "im sorry sir, but we will be charging you an additional fee of $25.00 on top of your $35.00 for a local outage that happened in your area earlier last month. thank you!"
how about if bell changes DSL platforms? Say for example Lucent comes out with something better than DSLAM? (think back to the old DBIC to DSLAM upgrade)
Or if they upgrade speeds in your area. Right now, they would be free (like the 1.5 to 3.0) but you dont mind paying that upgrade fee, do you?
face facts: the only reason bell says there is a $10 modem fee is so they can claim the actual service is only ~$35 a month instead of saying its $45. That extra $10 you pay is NOT going to modem towards the modem rental, its going towards your service.
I pay you aren't a business man, otherwise i fear for your shareholders... |

As I've mentioned before, Roger's charges a $10 "line access" fee if you don't have basic cable tv service. So even if you buy your modem from them, you're still paying an extra $10 a month.

@drlogick.com
| reply to Pringlz Pringlz, you are missing the point. Regardless if I am a business man or not. It has nothing to do with how they choose to allocate their fees which I do know how to. E.g. Construction Company. One company handles excavation fees and the other handles the forming. And so on for taxes and otherthings. But this is not about me.
Service providers of equal speeds or greater are offering their service with no modem rental for 29.95 @ 3mbps and or 33.95 @ 4mbps.
So now ask would you pay 29.95/month for 3mbps with NO modem rental fee (They provide you with a modem) or pay 44.95/month for 3mbps knowing you are paying a modem rental?
This shows how little you have read. How about you just pay me some money now and I could show you the face with all the money I am saving. You must be a strong believer in leasing a car!
-Mike-
Yeah AND?
So does all services. So what is your point? I can just say this with switching from BELL I am saving as little as $80/month to a high of $120. Through Phone and Internet.
Again this is a topic of Feedback to Im Listening not myself. |

If the modem rental bothers you that much, you can call the billing office and have the $10 fee waived. -- There is no limit to what one can do, so long as they don't mind who takes the credit. |
