Louisville - Franchise contract up in 2006?

I've heard rumors that Insight's franchise is up in early 2006. Anyone have verification on this? Anyone also heard anything about any other cable company coming in or anymore on Comcast taking over the rest of Insight's markets?

The Frabchise for insight in Johnson County was up Mid-Summer of last year, and they just held a City-County meeting and resigned the contract.......So its not a big deal...............

when I talked to a tech that came out to my house he mentioned something about Comcast taking over Insight. But they did not like one thing about Insight, Digital Phone. They do not want to offer that from what he communicated to me.

Isn't all this talk of Comcast taking things over a bit of a mute point? Or was the announcement to take Insight Communications private just a ploy by a few people to get a bigger share of the profits when Comcast decides to make a bid for Insight?

From what I've seen over the past several years. It seems in almost all cases it is rare for a city government to not resign with the current cable provider. It has happened in the past. But from what I've seen it's rare. Normally all you'll see is changes made to the wording of the contract between the parties. Or new concessions made by one side or the other in regards to contract terms.

It's not a moot point for me because like someone else in the thread I work for Charter, and if comcast takes over I finally get the service discount for working in the industry Insight refuses to honor. Tech support will still be the same quality. Prices arent going to change much for everyone else.

As for Comcast not liking the broadband phoen aspect. I believe they are offering it elsewhere so I dont see why they would have ea problem with it here.

As for Insight going private. It was just to stop the bleeding, well most of it. Like I stated they are down to 5 markets. Companies that are shrinking that much arent sticking around in this era of mergers. It's either comcast takes the rest of them over or Time Warner or Cox come through and snatch them up.

I figure Comcast or another company will buy out Insight. First we had @Home service and then Insightbb and soon maybe another company will take control. It's not that big a deal. Someone will provide service down the road.

Actually over the last 15 years or so i can remember distinctly 3 - 4 different cable providers for louisville. Storer, TKO, then I believe there was another shortly before it became Insight. So at least in louisville it does happen. It may take a few years but it does happen.

I would imagine that comcast will pull the trigger on insight around the 1st of the yr, then insight will put a freeze on it for 6 months, then about 6 months after that...But I don't think comcast will be interested in all of insight, looking at the company profile and other resources they may only be interested in the Illinois Plant, Hense the reason insight has went private....So you can just sell off parts to the highest bidder. I think Indiana will be most likely Be Bright House Before it goes comcast.............But who am I to judge

But thats not because of the Franchise Contract, Thats because they were bought out

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there some federal regulation about cable companies are only allowed to service up to some number (I think it's 30) percent of households that subscribe to cable.

Comcast's acquisition of AT&T Broadband I thought put the combined company over the top and hence the sale of smaller MSO's to outlets such as Insight. So the chances of MSO's being changed from one cable operator to another are slim unless say a franchise board would switch from Insight to Mediacom.

That number was changed several months back.

Comcast's phone is VOIP. Insight's phone is POTS switched (not through broadband) landline service. Comcast doesn't want any part of that. Insight is also rolling out VOIP too so they will offer both.
