This "company" offers 10GB of space for $3.99/month. Too shady for me. What does everyone else think? Their AdWords ad also says "30gb space for free." Too shady when they say 30GB. |

Be sure to call them up and send a few emails and see what kind of response and time are.
There seens to be a lot of negative reviews about them across the web, and a few selected good reviews. Use common sense, with those bandwidth numbers they are probably overselling.
Be sure to read this: »canaca.com/contract.html and understand the terms that are stated there.
From my personal opinion, the risk is medium if you choose to host your site(s) with them.
Good luck and be sure to let us all know how it goes if you choose to host with them. |

| reply to i386 Maybe drop sBrook a line (moderator from the Rogers forum). He has been using Canaca.com for a while. He has a post recently about their tech support not being willing to escalate a request for an alternate SMTP port since Rogers recently implemented port 25 blocking.
He might be able to provide some feedback on their services. |

| Curiously, they have been in business since 1998 ... but I don't know how ...
I had recommended them ... in terms of you don't spend a lot but you at least get what you pay for ... well, that was my feeling until the last few days, and it's gone down the tubes totally today.
Rogers, my connectivity provider, has blocked port 25 outbound. So, I ask Canaca to consider opening an alternate port. After several goes around, they are now telling me that it's Rogers problem and that I should complain to them. Looks like they hire the same customer support idiots as Rogers!
I've asked that my request be forwarded to a manager ... but no dice so far. |

i386 Unix God Premium join:2004-07-10 Tucson, AZ | Comcast blocks port 25... but I went and bitched and they removed the filter. I'm not sure if Rogers would do that though.
Would it be possible for you to use smtp.rogers.com (or whatever Rogers' SMTP server is)? |

| I am currently using rogers smtp server (it's Rogers-Yahoo! now using Yahoo's servers) which makes it subject to Rogers, Yahoo!'s and American lack of privacy policies. And it's pretty unreliable too.
Rogers wouldn't remove the SMTP block ... not for all the tea in china i'm sure.
So, I'm gonna be looking for another host soon. I'm not putting up with this crap for much longer. |
