| reply to DMS1 Re: How many ONTs per OLT?
FDH= Fiber Disribution Hub. They are the beige boxes(pole or pad mount) that contain the optical splitters. The black objects you were refering to are FDT's(Fiber Distribution Terminals), that's where the drops that go to individual houses are connected. The terminals can go on a pole or underground depending on how your utilities are delivered. Most are 4 port terminals but they do come in different sizes(up to 12 I think). There are some good posts on the site with pics that show hubs and terminals or google around to learn more about PON's. BTW, do you know if FiOS is being installed in your area? |

| Thanks a lot 'splicer2'.
FIOS is most definitely being installed in my area (Carrollton TX) since I'm using at the moment. For some reason this area got an accelerated roll-out. It was only about seven weeks from first conduit being laid in the northern part of the city to customers being connected. |

| The FDT that I connect to has 8 ports. I've also wondered about the 32 ONTs per FDH. In our neighborhood, we have over 100 homes, and the neighborhood across the way has a little over 30. There are 2 FDHs that I have found along the newly laid fiber route. That adds up to 64. I'm wondering where the other 2+ FDHs are to get to over 130. These are single FDHs, I have seen some now that encloses 2 FDHs in one unit.. but none like that close to me. |

FDHs come in three sizes, 144, 216, 432. For example the 144 can hold 5 32/1 splitters. And someone posted earlier about 16:1 splitters. Those are only used for distances of greater than 35000 feet from the CO. |

| reply to pmn929 FDHs are available in 3 sizes...
* 144. * 216. * 432.
The size of FDH is determined by the DA size (Distribution Area) and total number of potential subscribers (planned at a 100% take-rate) + spares.

Carrollton was always one of the BIG 4 hubs in the GTE network, so it's no surprise |
