[VA] Will Cox match Verizon 30mbps @ $79?

Apparently Verizon has come up with a way to fight
Cox's recently upgraded 15mbps service. I just received
a Verizon offer to get FIOS 30mbps for $79 per month.
This is apprarently only targeted to customers in the
Falls Church/Tysons Corner/McLean/Vienna area.

Unfortunately, I'll probably turn it down, as it will
involve having most part of my front lawn getting dug up
for new wires.

My question is, can Cox go up with 30mbps with its current
infrastructure?

Thanks for any info!

No, there is no way COX can do this with existing infrastructure. Why not get FIOS? Let them cut up your lawn! FIOS 30mbps for $79/month is a GOOD deal. If you want just dig the ditch yourself (if you are worried about Verizon messing your lawn up). Just dig down like 5 inches by 6 inches wide so there will be a "path" where Verizon can drop the conduit. If they need it deeper they can make it deeper. But personally I'd let them dig it up. They do a good job of making it look back to normal when they're done I heard.

My gosh, I'd JUMP on that so quick that Cox wouldn't have a chance to respond with an offer.

I am stating that the standard price they are giving to everyone is $200. I don't see how he things he will get 30mbps for $79. The only package I know that is $79 is the 15mbps business package.

Here is a link to the packages: »www22.verizon.com/fiosforhome/ch···kage.asp

I live in this area - very close to Tysons Corner - and I have yet to see any Verizon fiber installation activity in or near my neighborhood. Of course I had DSL from Covad for over 4 years before Verizon offered DSL service to my address... so I'm not holding my breath.

I'm sure code requires at least 10" in depth or more for buried fiber cable or at least below the freeze line.

I have read it. Geeze! I wouldn't think why he would randomly get that flyer.
