Why stupid F-Prot has two icons in the system tray

Why stupid F-Prot has two icons in the system tray? Why cannot it use one icon to indicate all its processes? It's simply unreasonable.

Re: Why stupid F-Prot has two icons in the system

NOD32 used to have THREE icons in the systray.

I don't know why F-Prot has two. It didn't when I had 3.14 and 3.15 versions. It must be some change in the 3.16 version which I knew I wouldn't like. 3.15 was the last really good version until the long awaited 4.0 finally arrives.

One may be the schedular. What does it say when you hover the mouse over each one of them?

I said one variable icon can indicate the status of all processes just like with other antivirus.

It doesn't NOW. That was two years ago with version 1. One icon was for the real time monitor, one for the on demand monitor and one for the email monitor. Version 2 combined them into one icon.

It doesn't make sense that F-Prot 3.15 would have one icon and 3.16 would have two. I don't understand what you said it says when you hover means. That makes no sense to me. Maybe there is something wrong with your copy or your computer? I find it hard to see why Frisk would go from one icon to two and with a minor upgrade at that.

AVG7 runs 2 icons in the task bar when the updater is running. Perhaps that is what you are seeing.

Hi. F-Prot does show two icons by default. One is for the real time monitor and one is for the scheduler. If you right click on the scheduler icon and select "settings", you can turn off the display of the scheduler icon in the system tray.

If you choose to hide the icon for scheduler, you have no convenient way to know if scheduler is running.

Re: Why stupid F-Prot has two icons in the system

Ah! That is why I didn't see two icons when I had F-Prot. I immediately turned off the scheduler. I always do that with any AV. I don't schedule any scans. I do a scan when something happens to make me feel it is needed. I haven't fully scanned this XP box in six months.

Heck two icons are nothing, DrWEB has three of 'em. But each does serve a purpose. Curious to see what the new DrWEB 4.33 has in store. Maybe a new facelift...wait and see...

Avast has two icons as default but you have the option of merging the two icons into one. Have you checked to see if there is an option to merge icons in F-Prot?

No, you missed the point. The scheduler is not only for regular scan, it's for regular update too. So you must always make sure it is running.

I don't think those two icons can be merged into one for F-Prot.

Hmm...well I only had F-Prot for a 30 day trial about nine months ago. Maybe I have just forgotten and I did have two icons.

I am pretty sure that even if you hide the icon, the scheduling and updating service is still working. You can access them by starting f-prot in full mode. I agree that it would be nice if all f-prot functions could be accessed via one tray icon, but maybe that will come in the next realease, whenever that is.
