Why not?

Some of the coolest gadgets were not designed to to anything more than please the person building it. Some stayed that way, others became very popular or morphed into something the public uses.

Maybe, in the future, this will have a more practical use. Maybe it will inspire someone to improve it. This is what drives innovation.
